Albatron is one of the first companies to come out with a HD 4830 design that does not require an external power connector. Another difference to the HD 4830 is the number of shaders. Instead of 640 like on the reference, Albatron has packed 800 shaders on their card for some extra performance.

Very thorough review guys. I'm really surprised to see this card havin a dual slot cooler design. The card shrunk in length but needs to be a single slot design to apply it better.

i read it now. i normaly only read the conclusion, the benchmarks, whats included in the bundle. :)

does this mean that if the card would exceded the specifications by 20% or more the PCI-E slot on the mobo could get damaged?

in theory, anything that exeeds the specification can damage something. but i doubt something like this will happen in practice

Very true. These are strong "recommendations" and nothing more. I like to see limits like these pushed, and I also like the idea of this particular card.

the card is too noisy for an htpc imo. passive ftw. and no, it will overheat with the fan disconnected (i tried)

That fan does indeed look like it would be loud  Thats disappointing I wonder why they dont just spend a little more time on the designing the cooling features of the card. I would gladly pay a little more for a card that will not overheat due to poorly designed cooling solutions and listen to that awful noise just trying to keep the thing cool.

 maybe I know that I personally care more about my temps then the noise but it would be wonderful to live in both worlds. On air that is.

Just out of curiosity, how are you measuring the cards power consumption alone?

Great all the strain of VGA power draw transferred to the mobo. I can see some failed mainboards for no apparent reason.

Nope, PCI-E 2.0 can give more!.

but for now, they HAVE to comply with 1.1 specs which is limited to 75, i dont remember the 2.0.

My DFI LP UT 790FX-M2R can give roughly 200 W if power connectors to motherboard is conencted(3 floppy connectors of ALL things)

But i dont know if THAT is healthy :p

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I understand, PCI-e 2.0 specs allow up to 150w to be delivered through the slot.

This would explain why W1zzard had no issues. The board he tested this card on is a PCI-e 2.0 one.

I would be interested to see this card tested on a PCI-e 1.1 motherboard.

No, the PCI-E (1.x and 2.0) slot only supplies 75w. Version 2.0 specifications state that the 6-pin PEG connector provides 75w additional (and higher bandwidth, of couse).

It also states the newer 8-pin PEG connector provides 150w by itself. So in total:

75w PCI-E slot
75w 6-pin PEG connector
150w 8-pin PEG connector

300w total

Thus why the PCI-E 2.0 specification is also known as "300W". More information.

I have a Palit HD 4670 runs great on my old ASRock ALiveNF6G-VSTA motherboard, and it's only PCI-E 1.0a compliant. The Green Edition of Palit's 9600GT also runs quite fine, and it's overclocked to 700MHz core and 1GHz memory.
