If you live and work at the desktop level, then your concern should probably be with the "Phenom X6" or the "Core i9", both anticipated in 2010 I believe.

At the business, corporate, or crazy enthusiast level Magny-Cours will mean big things for AMD. With up to 12 cores per chip, AMD will have a unique 1P offering, along with very strong 2P, 4P, and 8P offerings.

That is, if they can bring the performance :)

On Intel's side, they've already shown Nahelem-EX in 2P, 4P, and 8P. It's only 8-cores per chip, but with HT. And after my month-long experience with a couple E5520 servers, I'd say that HT has come a long way from it's first incarnation.

So no, Intel nor AMD are closing up shop anytime soon. In fact, I'd say that it's way too eerie that they match up so well.

Well AMD is smarter than I thought, lets release details of our amazing 12 core processor (which will never hit the public) on the i5 release so AMD fanbois can argue that AMD is awesome. Good plan.

Sell a retail 12 core chip and we'll talk. two 6 cores just isn't the same.

That's a 12-core chip. If you think two 6 cores aren't the same, then Intel started selling quad-core chips only 10 months ago.

Most of this, "2 processors duct taped together is bad" stuff stems from AMD marketing put out a long time ago, but we all know that AMD has not been ahead even though they have "true" quad cores (Intel does NOW, but who cares?). Now they have throw that out the windows and duct tape because they are behind. The truth? AMD's true quad core concept has been thrown to the wind because it never really was faster anyway.

yes but is it a dual dual like a Q6600 for example (totally cool), or is it two six core CPU's in two sockets, that's surely what the picture makes it looks like.

If it is actually 2 cores in ONE cpu, that's cool, if you need a 2 socket board, MEH!

cool, I guess. Still doesn't mean the death of Intel, or that this is even close to retail release.

Interesting... yet, I fear its too little too late for this architecture, my meh! stands.

I think it all stems from the fact that the Pentium D was a horrible, horrible, horrible processor, and its specter has remained in peoples' heads and will continue to do so for years.

i hate all the fanboism that's going through this thread. So what if AMD takes the crown for a while, it's good for the market.

I use both Intel and AMD. Personally I like both equally and 12 cores on one chip?!?!? Thats awesome! I buy what I can afford and what I can afford for the bang for my buck! And AMD was my bang now lol. I still have a P4 socket 478 Northwood running in the other room for a daily machine lol.

AMD certainly upstaged Intel on this one--I don't think Intel saw it coming because AMD shouted and screamed that the C2Q is an MCM design (and still spanked them). Still, if Intel feels this actually posses a threat (and I believe they don't), it would be just as easy for them to MCM Dunnington as it was for AMD to MCM Istanbul. We'll have to see if and how Intel responds.

Ha, no. If they bring this processor to market, it may shift the enterprise server market a little in AMDs favor. The enterprise market is the only area where AMD has been doing alright for the past several years so it makes sense that they are focusing there. When you're talking about buying 10,000+ CPUs, AMD is simply more bang for the buck.

Funny how all the intel fans get there panties all bunched up when amd brings out something new that might threaten there precious intel....:roll::roll:
I had a feeling amd wasn't just sitting back letting Intel dominate the world, but instead they were just working and keeping things hush hush and just waiting to drop the bomb ........ WICKID!!!!:rockout:
I just hope this is going to be the chip to stomp intel for a change...:pimp:
