I have seen HD 5870 preorder at >600USD. I have seen actual HD 5970 sell for 800€, yes 800€!

Pre-order stunts are usual way of trying to get noticed, this is nothing else. Price is always well beyond regular.

wow....yea i garantee ATI is having a party on there end. Like things couldn't be gonig better for them. First they matched performance with the HD 4XXX series or lowered prices to compensate. And now they're incharge of the market. I mean all their cards are cheaper than nvidia by 30-100bucks and outperform them. GTX 285 price and HD 5850 price is a prime example.

And if nvidia do sell GTX 470:$300/GTX 480:$400. ATI can def afford to go say HD 5830:$199/HD 5850:$250/HD 5870:$300-329. that would kill nvidia's release right there, not to mention if the dropped the HD 5970 to say $500-550. AND THEN if they wanna reclaim the performance crown, HD 5890:$400. You know they could release it cause there was an article saying that Sapphire's HD 5870 Vapor-X oc was pushing the limits of what ATI would allow with the HD 5870 and its only oc'd by 20mhz. hmmm wonder why?

March VS the original September release? Is that a new record? They should get a gold medal in the winter Olympics, I only mention winter as if it were summer they cards could melt.

still you gotta give em props, the G92 has outlasted any chip I can think of and still performs decently even though nvidia has spammed it to hell and back.

I couldn't even imagine how much money it has made them.

Im guessing probably about as much as they're about to lose...

because they sat around on the G80/G92 for so long.

For those who don't go the front page as often as you should:

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=116114

btarunr said:
A little earlier this month, NVIDIA tweeted that it would formally unveil the GeForce GTX 400 series graphics cards, NVIDIA's DirectX 11 generation GPUs, at the PAX East gaming event in Boston (MA), United States, on the 26th of March. That's a little under a month's time from now. In its run up, sources that have access to samples of the graphics cards seem to be drawing their "performance expectations" among other details tricking in.

Both the GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 graphics cards are based on NVIDIA's GF100 silicon, which physically packs 512 CUDA cores, 16 geometry units, 64 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and a 384-bit GDDR5 memory interface. While the GTX 480 is a full-featured part, the GTX 470 is slightly watered-down, with probably 448 or 480 CUDA cores enabled, and a slightly narrower memory interface, probably 320-bit GDDR5. Sources tell DonanimHaber that the GeForce GTX 470 performs somewhere between the ATI Radeon HD 5850 and Radeon HD 5870. This part is said to have a power draw of 300W. The GeForce GTX 480, on the other hand, is expected to perform on-par with the GeForce GTX 295 - at least in existing (present-generation) applications. A recent listing by an online store for a pre-order, put the GTX 480 at US $699.
