It is true that diminishing returns is totally there when you goes higher, but its not no return at all.
But main thing is, if you are just gonna listen to MP3, there is not much point getting a very good pair at all. Like any setup, there is bottleneck and in audio, bottleneck can comes from the recording to DAC to the amplifier no matter how good the headphones is, it will reveal the flaws of the equipments, it is even more true when it is a high end pair.
