Seriously, this thread certainly did take a turn...lol

W1z still does the best reviews on the net. PERIOD. They are the only reviews I trust fully.

The drivers uses are not that old, something like 3 months, W1z tends to do a complete rebench with the latest drivers every quarter, which means new driver review will likely be coming. W1z could have benched just the HD5800 cards with the new drivers, but then people would still bitch about the older drivers being used with the older cards, and the review not helping give an idea of how much of a performance boost people get over their current cards... It is lose lose. I'd rather see one single driver used for all the cards than some cards with one driver and others with another.

Having a few nice constructive comments about the older drivers would have been fine, however IMO going on and on about it, posting the same non-constructive comments about it and implying that W1z doesn't know what he is doing is nothing more than trolling and flaming, and it should be handled as such with infractions and bans. You don't just come onto HIS website and start bashing his work, it isn't acceptable.

If you can't make your comments constructive, DON'T make any.

IMO, posts about the drivers by the following people should have been deleted, and met with infactions or bans:

Reefer86
rpsgc
Semi-Lobster
a_ump
Dahaka

And mind you, that isn't everyone that talked about the drivers, just those that were really just trolling about them and had crap like WTF and FAIL in the post, and nothing contructive.

IMO, the comments for a review should be able the product, and not the review process itself. A constructive comment or two about a certain issue with the review is fine, but once it is posted by someone else, that is it, no need to repost the same thing 30 times.

why was cat 9.12 used? 5K cards get quite the performance boost in the latest drivers.

the reason it matters is especially with the 5970, it would have very outdated crossfire profiles for the newer DX11 games - 3 months could be the difference between one GPU or both GPU's being used in some titles.

i'm not testing a beta driver that appears right before the launch of the biggest competitor. you're still not happy with 10.3 whql ? apparently all of the 9.12 naysayers fell for amd's propaganda of 15% faster drivers

If you consider the sample 480 you have only over clocks 10% a 2% overall difference just from drivers is still a difference that needs to be taken into account eh

Although I see in a few games the little extra the drivers give put it ahead of the 480 XD

happy with anything you test - we wanted to know if 9.12 was holding them back due to the age, from a verified source (read: not AMD's release notes)

10.3 is legit WHQL, so its quite valid to use that one.

It takes huge amounts of time and effort and that's if things go according to plans. Once you bring a whole new product range into the picture no doubt that time frame increases three times as drivers and compatibility questions arise. W1zzard I hope you realize that you do carry a high level of respect among many sites, not just here at TPU and that once the de-stressing passes and you recover from GPU burnout that you are here for a long time providing quality reviews.

at 2%. I thought those 15% increases were to good to be true. And there you have ya dumb asses. NOW do you understand why this was all pointless and the review was in fact awesome?

Really makes a difference, and really shows how little ATi has done with their drivers over the time the cards have been out.

I'm really looking forward to your review of the GTX470, and would have prefered your time spent reviewing that then redoing ATi cards with drivers that make no real difference...

Really makes a difference, and really shows how little ATi has done with their drivers over the time the cards have been out.

The only thing I will guess is those "15%" increases are in some sections of the game. Not over all. Anyway thats my best guess.

Did you relook through the review? 2% is the average difference.

In some games you get that full 15% ( and in some other games you get as much as 20%)

And in some cases it got LESS FPS. So yeah running the 10.3 was a waste of time.
