Cat 10.4 hotfix released from ATI

The ATI Catalyst 10.4 Hotfix provides resolution for the following issue:

Long load times for new maps in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 when using an ATI Radeon HD 5xxx series graphics card

Seems mostly a bug fix, not a performance driver. Small gains, I guess, but i'm running eyefinity, so all gains are relatively small for me.

Haven't tried alot either yet, just BFBC2, GTA4(and the Lost and Damned DLC), as well as the 3dMarks. I'll try alot more once the wife gets home...just got back from picking up the kids from school.

Sure. It's a full driver package, so just do the normal uninstal, then install this driver. It even says to do so on the hotfix page...never install drivers over one another. I mean, you CAN do it, but even ATI does not recommend this. There may be left over files that can cause issues, if you do not remove each version on it's own, using it's own installer.

For detailed instructions on how to install the driver preview, refer to:

■Article GPU-33 for a Windows 7 based system
■Article GPU-1 for a Windows Vista based system
■Article GPU-2 for a Windows XP / Windows 2000 based system

Those articles tell you to remove the old driver FIRST.

So, it'd be wise to unistall it and then get a BIOS update if available...

its called a hotfix because its released without complete testing, and its designed to fix one specific issue.

Kewl, just got my 5770 installed yesterday and am already hating the 3x load times Seems I'll be all over this and maybe even do a driver uninstall first (always installed on top of drivers last 3 years with nvidia without issues)

both really.

way i see it, its a hotfix that passed the first round of testing, hence called a preview.

Yeah, samething really - I always define a hotfix as a patch, but with ATi their hotfixes are full sets.

Still, I'll hold out until the 4k series 'hotfix' comes out.

next months driver released before final testing = preview

Run my first FurMark with 5770 and does exactly that, highly annoying. Silky smooth with GTX 280.

Will try these drivers a bit later, if it's any different.

edit: ah it might be the FurMark throttle thing on ATI cards, CPU usage does a jagged line along with the stutters. Oh well, not a biggie.
