Cat 10.4 hotfix released from ATI

Is this jerkyness 5xxx series problem/GDDR5 problem or driver problem?

It's an ATI problem. I've been trying to figure it out but gave up and just deal with it. Stuttering happens in a large amount of games. MW1 and MW2 but not World at War. Half Life 2, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, GTA IV. Some games it's because of the VSync not working properly. I notice Far Cry 2, the syncing fights with the max frames. So you have to max the frames at 30. In MW1 and 2 you have to max the frames at 58. Any higher, it does this crazy stutter.

Oddly, Far Cry 2's issue doesn't happen in Directx 9, only 10. I noticed Dirt 2 does the same thing. Its not even like a slow lag, its more like a complete pause.

As for BC2, I have had two issues which I am curious if they're fixed. One, grass textures were missing at one part. They were just stretched out, green textures. Also, the VSync doesn't seem to work on my 5770. Screen tearing is horrid at some points.

You'd think this weird stutter problem would be fixed by now.

snake: try using D3Doverrider in the latest rivatuner, and force Vsync and triple buffering on. it seems to help a ton with ATI's vsync issues.

You know, I heard someone said to try using triple buffering but I only found the settings for OpenGL. Thanks, I'll give it a try. I've been seeing everyone having this issue on so many cards. Kinda crazy.

BF:BC2 V-sync was supposed to be fixed as of 10.3b I though... I know it's working now for me although you sometimes have to enter a round, change the resolution in game, and change it back to get it applied.

i permanently force it on cause i get nausea inducing flickering should it ever go off. crossfire problem.

Works great on 5-series with the April 7th Crossfire Profile.

I tested another 5850 in my system for BC2 and the flickering was pretty horrible. Supposedly all the flickering was fixed now with or without v-sync.

different flickering. i had two types - one where water/glass flickered, and the usual one i get in ALL apps, where it looks like an old TV signal or VCR out of sync - wavey lines going up and down the image.

Yeah, the second type is the one I experienced with 5850 crossfire but only in BC2. Getting v-sync to work fixed it. I think it was the most recent 10.x "leaked" beta driver that (I thought had) fixed it without needing v-sync.

You get it in every game?

i get it in EVERY game, and have since i went crossfire, yeah. Even with Vsync on i get a faint wavey effect thats annoying in dark scenes - with it off, holy shit it makes me wanna puke - the higher the FPS, the nastier it gets.

On both the TV and monitor you're running? When I ran 4850 crossfire for 16 months I occasionally saw this in some games with some drivers but I always updated to the latest drivers and it would go away. For the last 3 months I had the cards no game caused any flickering other than the BC2 water/glass flickering.

Maybe you're having signal noise or refreshrate issues?

it may well be refresh rate related, as i also get the 59Hz 'bug' - tried a million things, nothing seemed to fix it.

When i first got the cards i didnt notice it, but thats cause most games default to vsync on - only games where its built in Vsync is broken (like stalker CoP), did i suddenly notice it and realize how bad it was when vsync was off.

Have you tried another monitor, Mussels?

I have that issue with the Dell 3007, which has no scaler or anything.

But the 3008...OMG...it's been gaming bliss. Strange too, because there have been reports in reviews of input lag, but the refreshrate is better on the 08 than the 07, and I've yet to experience any.

Maybe something to try, if you can. I would have never thought it was the monitor...

hmmm, havent really tested with another screen, no.

i <3 this screen and have no issues WITHOUT crossfire, so it makes no real sense for it to be the monitors fault.

I was in the exact same boat though. And the funny thing is, that my Dell P2310H's have the same problem...but no real scaler...

It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when I got the 08 that I finally left that issue, and some stutter, behind.

For once, since getting Crossfire (and I've run it since they released it on the X800) I seem to really benefit from it...

Would be interesting to see if your rig worked OK on my '08.

It might just be that the scaler somehow fixes the issue...I dunno...but you'd think the scaler would even out the FPS displayed...

I have an A03, so when you see in reviews, that 1680x1050 doesn't work, they had early revisions. None of the issues reported in reviews seem to affect me.

Well I can't seem to get that D3DOverider to work. No biggie. I only have it on games that I can't force max FPS.

Anyone have any issues with Fallout 3? Besides that stuttering sometimes, I can't seem to get AA to work. I force it in CCC and it won't work. If I select anything more than 2xAA the load screen will do a constant flicker and at 2xAA it works for 1 minute then crashes. Really strange. It's the only game that does it. :\

Also, I have an Athlon II X3 and a 5770 with 4GB of Ram, but....sometimes the game slows. It does it when I look at the horizon at times. It'll just go to a slow crawl. I've never seen such a buggy game. Sometimes it's smooth but sometimes it's not.

Has anybody have any perfomance decrease while playing BFBC2? I usually get 60-90 FPS, but my game is having random spikes of 20 FPS and it's lagging here and there? My ping is fine, I will have to try going back to 10.3b and see if there are any differences...

This update makes bc2 load a lot faster!

True, but I'm talking about sudden performance drops ingame. Another example is when I do 3rd person view for vehicles my FPS goes down to like 40s :(

Surely that's a CrossFire thing then, my 5770 has no issues like that. Can't say exact fps in 3rd person though, as afterburner OSD doesn't work in DX11.

yeah same for me too triptex, the "mystery driver" is the only one that seemed to fixed the issue involving crossfire/two monitors/ and overclocking... I'm suffering through the long load times until the real drivers fix it.. performmance is great, and everything is silky smooth with my crossfired 5870s, but load times unfortunately will still suck till it's repaired

also, on other drivers besides these that also cause my oc to be unstable(bullshit), i flashed away the 157/300 clocks in the bios and changed them all to 500/900 and 850/1250 for full on clocks.. it also fixed the flickering issue

i use fraps, to me the osd apps from afterburner and others seems to involved.. fraps just works for me.

almost a week later - where the hell is the 10.4 for the 4xxx users???

AFter RMAing my 5850 and clicking in my pair of 9600's, BC2 loads much faster! MUCH faster...
(sorry for being assholic :)
