One of Zalman's latest creations is a refresh on its CNPS9900 CPU cooler, the CNPS9900 MAX. While identical to the CNPS9900 base model (copper) in many ways, the MAX sports a black+graphite look, making use of nickel-plated copper. The design involved two loops of copper fins to which heat is conducted by heat pipes, while air is circulated by a 120 mm FDB bearing fan that spins between 800~1200 rpm, with a noise output of 18~43 dBA. The cooler measures 94 (L) x 131 (W) x 152 (H) mm, weighing 730 g. It supports all current CPU sockets out of the box, including LGA-1366, LGA-1156, AM3, and LGA-775. A tube of ZM-STG2 thermal compound is bundled with it. There's no word on the pricing yet.

I wish these coolers were just a little better performance wise. They would def look good on a black out board, but I would not trust it on a OCed i7 at all :ohwell:

A white fan would be nice, although as long as it had an off switch I would take almost any color.

Zalman needs to move away from this cooler design. They've been using it for ages and no matter how many changes to the colour of the fan or fins they make, it's not going to make it any better at cooling. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but it's no longer a match for anything from Noctua, Prolimatech or Thermalright.

Hm, guru3d gives different data. 13.5cm fan for instance:
http://www.guru3d.com/news/computex--zalman-launches-new-cnps-cpu-cooler/

I don't know if it is but this sounds efficient:
"Zalman claims the cooler can deal with an impressive 280W Q Max."

"While identical to the CNPS9900 base model (copper) in many ways, the MAX sports a black+graphite look, making use of nickel-plated copper."

If that's the case then like the CNPS9900 it will barely handle a mildly overclocked i7 which uses max 150W. I doubt it would handle anything close to 280W.

Perhaps they should try DHT instead of their cooler. I mean it cools well, but as was said, much better ones exits and are cheaper (Hyper 212+ for instance)

I have the CNPS9900 (the old one with the babe-magnet (aka blue led :p)) And it cools my i7 920 @ 3,6ghz quietly.. i'm very satisfied with it but the only annoyance is that the fins sometimes start shaking giving off this annoying sound. That problem seems to be solved with this newer model, check the metal string going across all the finns making them more "stable" at the outer ends. looks good!

That looks very sexy. Since its Zalman it will have a led on it, it will come with a black light! then you will see crime scene investigators carrying this heatsink around room's and the guy will say "I found the blood" his friend will then say "No that's just blood from your finger must have got chopped off by the FAN!"

they need to rethink their design as this current 1 is probably only a decent stock replacement heatsink. Their time with this design was during the 2003-2006 CPUs, after that they are under performing for overclocking.

+1 to a new design idea. this was a great idea back for core2duo, and sorta core 2 quad, but since the HDT stuff the design has fallen in performance.

also, you could actually speculate for this to perform slightly under the original since the nickel plating will add heat resistance.

Nice to see they experimenting with other colours.

Proberly but hey ya can always disconnect them with the right tools :). Zalman fans can be a pain to mod but it's possible still.

Perfecting an older design doesn't make it useless. Rather the opposite.
