How To: Enable SLI on pre-i7/i5 hardware

wait wait, whats the forceware? i think im missing that part

Yes, the manual copy thing is just a last resort if InstallSLI.cmd didn't copy the files right. You should be able to just click on InstallSLI.cmd, and it's done! Don't mix the 2 patches, only use the SLIPatch installer.

A little off-topic now:

With Linux, do pre i7/i5 motherboards have SLI enabled?

In other words: do nVidia Linux drivers check for the SLI certificate aswell?

Is it possible to activate SLI with a X48, X38, P45, P35 (etc. etc. etc.) chipset with Linux? Or should we need another similar patch to the one discussed here?

Hi,
Before installing SLIPatch, my second card's fan was spinning 100% in Ubuntu 10.04 with official nVidia drivers. After installing SLIPatch, it slows down to 40% like a normal card. So yes, I think nVidia Linux drivers check for the SLI certificate. Therefore, I don't see any option to enable/disable SLI in Ubuntu.
Hope it helps.

What do you mean? How did you install SLIpatch in Ubuntu???

didn't have any luck with the vista 64bit so got windows 7 professional on but now the site is down! ahhh anyone got a link to the win7 64bit?

DONE! muahaha thank you to all that helped! now to wait for my sli bridge to show up

I have dual boot (Ubuntu and 7). Installed slipatch once via 7. Then noticed that it also affected linux drivers. Didn't do anything on ubuntu, just installed proper drivers way before using slipatch.

Weird!!! SLIpatch only uses 3 modified WINDOWS base files ('ntoskrnl.exe', 'hal.dll' and 'winload.exe'). They are from and for Windows... They have NOTHING to do with Ubuntu (Linux) kernel (nor "normal") files! Strange at its best!!!

Maybe you can see if SLI is working in Ubuntu by using CUDA-Z or NVClock utilities. I don't know at all if they work, never used them. I don't use Linux but looking forward to do it... and I want to know if SLI can be enabled or not without a SLI certified motherboard.

Actually, this worked only with SLIPatch 0.8 as it does something to the ACPI. With SLIPatch 0.7, my second card's fan was still spinning 100% in Ubuntu.

I'm not yet familiar on installing all kind of programs in Ubuntu, but I'll try CUDA-Z or NVClock.

So you only changed for Win7 pro 64Bits and installed SLIPatch 0.8 and it worked? Which drivers are you using? Can u tell us your system specs?

I tried SLIPatch 0.7 and 0.8 on a P7P55D yesterday and with the 2nd mothod (not at the same time of course...) and no luck =S

I have a Intel DP45SG and 2x GTX 470's.

Windows 7 X64

DSDT with .08 is not reporting SLI.

I tried installing .07 but that just BSOD. .08 loads but does not have the cert required.

One member earlier in the thread said they got it working with this board, i contacted them but am curious if anyone else has anything.

Hi everyone! News from a dfi dk790fxb-m2rsh!

I have used slipatch 0.8 with forceware 257.21 on windows 7 64bits professional and I had no problems enabling sli mode on my motherboard with two 8800gt.

It appeared to work fine, with good performance, but sometimes when I'm playing CoD4, or UT3 it turns unstable, and sometimes windows shows the blue screen with a ntoskrnp.exe error... Then, I have installed the driver and the patch again, unninstalling them and cleanning the sistem before of corse, and only works a day or so... now I have the problem again.

This was the same problem that I had with slipatch 0.5 and forceware 195.xx, and when I updated to slipatch 0.7 and forceware 197.xx the problem desappeared.

I have found forceware 258.49, but it is for quadro cards, and I have to use a .inf file to enable support for geforce cards. Do you think that the ntoskmp.exe unstability it's because the forceware version, or it is the slipatch 0.8 the problem?

I had problems with that quadro driver, I went back to 257.21 whql.

Ok. But, what do you think about the unstable ntoskrnp.exe? I have problems with flash player with chrome too. It could be any relation between the blue screens and the patch? or it es because the 257.21 driver is not really supported?

I thinking in returning to forceware 197.xx with sli profile patches and be patient. I don't need to update more than this with 2 8800gt, don't you think?

I have no problems at all with 257.21. No crashes. No bluescreens. All games run. Completely stable. Don't use the quadro driver, I've already tested all this, trust me!

Hi! When the problem appeared? At boot time or not? if it was not at boot time then you have problems with software but not with the patch most likely.
Take a shot of blue screen and send it to me

i lately had similar problems, regarding the ntoskrnp (windebug told me), and, UT3 and COD4 were both unstable after a few hours, also gta 4, even with good temps, and not an impressive overclock, on both the cards and the proc. in fact i can go even higher on both, and the random ntoskrnp bsod also happens likewise... its only once a week or so, but its still a little annoying:laugh:
I also have used slipatch 0.8 with forceware 257.21 on windows 7 x64 ultimate and I also had no problems enabling sli mode on my motherboard with two 8800gt.:)

It wasn not at the boot time. I was an hour posting on forums, and suddely some applicattions started to freeze and then splashed blue screen.

small problems= drivers work, SLI patch works

big problems = dunno which doesn't work.
1. Screen can go black but apps (game) work.
2. BSOD
3. CTD (leads to crash always..not recoverable)
4. Freeze in game
5. Freeze in firefox
..and more

you must be small brother to rivatuner guy..lol

5. Freeze in firefox

Oh, real SLI problem here :) Sorry, firefox dont use sli :)
Check your hardware and try to use only WHQL drivers :)
