XFX Readies Pair of Single-Slot Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Cards

There seems to be a single-slot ATI Radeon HD 5700 series trend going on, with XFX designing two single-slot ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics cards, a base model (HD-577X-ZMF3), and an Eyefinity-5 model (HD-577X-Z5F3). Both cards use PCB and cooler designed by XFX. The cooler particularly looks familiar in design to the countless single-slot GeForce graphics cards designed by the company, one of the recent ones being a GeForce 9800 GT. The cooler makes generous use of copper.

Both cards stick to the reference AMD clock speeds, 850 MHz core and 1200 MHz (4800 MHz effective) memory, and feature 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. Power is taken in from a single 6-pin PCI-E input. While the base model has display outputs which includes two DVI and one mini-DisplayPort, the Eyefinity-5 model features five mini-DisplayPort connectors. The cards will be released around the middle of this month, and Japan prices (which tend to be higher than US/EU prices) indicate 17,500 JPY (US $202) for the base model, and 18,000 JPY ($208).

I've never liked this fan arrangement. I much prefer the fan at the other side of the card, by the power connector, blowing air towards the PCI bracket. This just goes better with most cases airflow, and allows a vented PCI bracket to be installed below the card so some of the hot air gets pushed out the back of the case. The way these cards are down, they are going against the airflow in most cases...

They are actually DisplayPorts, not HDMI. Yes, there are some downsides to using DisplayPort to DVI adapters. If you use cheap passive adapters, they are buggy and often times don't work properly, and usually aren't HDCP compliant. If you use active adapters they are ~$100 a piece.

Well it depends on the screen. If its 5x1080p screens, then of course it will be able to handle only a few games at that resolution. A game like Just Cause 2 or Bad Company 2 should be just about playable at about 30FPS. But if its 5x '1400x900' screens, it'll be able to play alot games. Theres also the other advantages when it comes to media and doing multitasking.

The card is selling really well or atleast it was selling as an outstanding mid-range card until the GTX 460 came.

Single slot is also for HTPC owners with limited space. Would make a killer card for that.

Would be nice to see monitor manufacturers as enthusiastic about DisplayPort. We have a decent pool of Eyefinity 5 and 6 cards, along with the DP that's been available on Quadro/FireGL, AMD HD 5000 Series and nVidia 400 series.

Now lets get some more DP choices, drop the whole thing, or introduce something new!

As for the single finger thing, it should work if someone wanted to Crossfire one of them with 1 to 3 5770's with two fingers, right? Get your 5 outputs and 4-way Crossfire in a seven slot case.

I've had a few XFX cards with heatsinks they designed themselves and when it comes to their single slot designs most are very loud with no fan control and I already see this has no fan control now I wonder if its loud.
