MSI continues to outdo itself. It recently rolled out the all-new 15.6-inch F Series FX610 laptop computer, featuring AMD's advanced Vision Ultimate platform with the latest Phenom II three-core processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 discrete graphics card (1GB DDR3 VRAM) for superior graphics. The cinema-class THX sound allows the FX610 to crank out clean, crisp sound to maximize your multimedia experience.

MSI Marketing Director Sam Chern points out that MSI couldn't be prouder of its FX610 laptop. It packs MSI's own GPU Boost and Cinema Pro multimedia technologies to manually switch graphics modes, optimize screen color and clarity, and instantly rev up graphics performance. The FX610's design is characterized by meticulous craftsmanship, including a distinctive raised totem seal coating which not only looks and feels great, it also protects against scratching, wear, and smudging to keep your laptop looking chic and new. We're looking at the industry's new standard.

Triple core performance
AMD Phenom II processor: The FX610 is equipped with AMD's latest Vision Ultimate platform and the Phenom II triple-core CPU which handles more data than duo cores, while using less power. This mean machine processes large quantities of data without breaking a sweat.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 discrete graphics card: The FX610 comes with the advanced ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 discrete graphics card with 1GB DDR3 for better performance and superb high definition for the best possible multimedia experience available.

Superior workmanship, stylish design
Style and technology in one package: MSI employed exquisite craftsmanship and the latest technologies to give the FX610 a uniquely elegant design as it continues to "Insist on the Best." The cover is sheathed in an anti-scratch, anti-wear, anti-smudge, no-peel jet black raised totem seal coating. What's more, the center is graced with a shimmering MSI logo and the wrist rest areas with raised diamond texture to enhance comfort of use.

The zenith of precision technology: Every detail of the FX610's body was meticulously crafted by MSI's design team. The power button is encircled by chrome plating which blends wonderfully with the cold, luminescent blue lights above the keyboard. The unassuming platinum trim around the speakers and body as well as the unmatched chiclet keyboard with its solid touch, raised multipoint touchpad, and the brush finish of the hotkey zone add to the taste and class of the FX610.

High-end multimedia performance
THX smart surround sound: MSI and world-renowned leader in sound technology THX worked side by side to give the FX610 professional-quality, cinema-class THX smart surround sound. The Smart Volume and Surround technologies give you ideal tone and balance for crisp, clean sound regardless of music type or frequency level to maximize your multimedia enjoyment.

GPU Boost technology: The MSI FX610 comes equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 discrete graphics card with 1GB DDR3 of display memory for high performance graphics processing capabilities. In addition, MSI's GPU Boost technology can let you switch over to the graphics chip. When you're using a program that processes large amounts of graphics, one touch of the hotkey switches you to the discrete graphics card mode which offers more powerful graphics capabilities. When you're just performing general word processing or cruising the Internet, you can cut to the power-sipping integrated graphics chip mode.

Cinema Pro technology: The FX610 NB not only features a high-end CPU and graphics card, MSI's exclusive Cinema Pro technology allows you to tweak the display to further enhance performance. Just before enjoying a video, simply press the Cinema Pro hotkey and the FX610 will switch to film mode for crisper resolution and richer colors, so you can get the most out of your cinematic experience.

There's obviously better graphics cards out there for laptops. But the concern here is for the heat. I'm sure this gives the user more than enough capability to watch Blu-Ray movies and view HD content online without any lag. For others looking for hardcore gaming laptops, look elsewhere.

5470 is a waste and for this type of notebook it would be nice to see a 5750 at least.... this is an almost-multi-media laptop.

Pass on this pile. 6 cell battery and worthless intel wireless?

HP's dv7-4060us comes with a 17.3" screen (led backlit), 5650, no intel, 9 cell battery and can be had for 700ish.

Because the 4x faster 5650 is probably just some $25 more expensive.
