This what I've been waiting for and AMD (ATI) answered it! This benchmark was killing my 5850 crossfire in scaling.

Maybe, on the contrast the 6xxx series Tessellation engine has made new improvements (as we can see in the Heaven Benchmark)

Wow its crossfire scaling is excellent

I think I got that right...

What these cards are going to do is make a bunch of money for ATI and it's partners and drop the hell out of prices because if you look at them , they don't appear to be expensive to make but perform very very well.

Not bad prices on newegg, Just hope they don't go up in price like the 5800 did.

Computer Hardware,Video Cards & Video Devices,Desk...

I bet this forces Geforce to drop prices and then these will go down even more after that . They are gonna be so much cheaper to make. There is allot more profit margin in these cards. They will drop very low watch and see. Geforce is in trouble here. Wait for a 6850 x2 that will be a monster of a performer, have low power and will be cheap as hell to make. I will bet my left nut that card will exist.

actually yes
hes comparing multi-gpu scaling without including the cards intended competition?!

Even if the 460 has 100% scaling the single card doesn't come close to the 6870 unless CF is not working as it should. So I honestly don't see the need :ohwell:

I wonder if say the 460 gtx 1 GB hits 149.99 would that be a game changer here. I bet it does and the 450 gets in the 80.00 to 100.00 range. They will have to. Man this means some good cheap cards. Your gonna see the gtx 470 hit 220.00. If you have stock in Nvidia sell right now profits are going to drop. This is a big head shot by ATI and XFX is very happy now.

I just read the 6850 review and it only brings up one question.

"One major issue with the sample I received was that it came with 1120 shaders enabled. The HD 6850 specification requires 960 shaders. Unfortunately neither HIS, nor AMD could provide help with getting the board fixed so I had to reconfigure the shaders on my own. If you see other HD 6850 reviews on the web that show surprisingly high performance, please ask the reviewer to check fillrate or using GPU-Z. I know of one other site who received a Sapphire HD 6850 with 1120 shaders enabled, so the problem might be more widespread."

Can the 6850 be flashed to enable the extra shaders or are these sample cards just 6870 chips down clocked and the retail cut chips?

May have to wait and see before I deside to buy one.

This I like.

If a 6850 can be "unlocked" that would be huge. But I think that's just an issue with the review sample though :p. So don't get your hopes up unless there is a thread full of people saying they've "unlocked it".

Computer Base

Wow the 6870 at 8xAA and SSAA is really beating up on the 470.

I only hope that W1zz saved the bios.;)

The speculation is now over.

Overall consensus: These cards perform and do exactly what they were built to do: dominate the mid-range market.

hint hint

Really really wish that excellent TPU voltage/clock/temp graph had another axis - load power consumption. It would be the ultimate chart of gpu charts.

I would hail it's GPU-info chartiness.

Would my PSU handle two 6870s?
