Sol Survivor is quite deep gameplay wise and i suggest you start with the campaign and then to the survivor modes. These are good for trial and error since you get unlimited waves, it's just a matter of when you defenses simply give up and can't defend the hordes anymore. You have to find a good blend of towers and smart use of orbital powers.

Both DG:TA and SS are a little disappointing in that careless placement or use of your orbital powers does not destroy your own towers. I think it should. Especially the nuke in SS.

I was only playing on normal setting, so I don't know if that occurs when playing a more difficult game. I think that damage from friendly fire should always be the case in any strategy game.

Just my 2 cents.

Think I will give DG:TA a try. Seems like it is the more popular tower game.

Also playing this game again to see what the lowest level I can finish the game at. Thinking 20th.

Then the nuke would be completelly useless. This is tower defense, not a strategy simulation.
Have you seen a single TD game where towers take damage? I haven't. Besides, orbital powers are meant as last second save tools and you have to use them on choke points.
That's also the place where you want to have towers as well.

There is just a difference in how towers work. In Defense Grid, same size towers cannot fire over other towers. They wills imply wait until the target walks past the obstructing tower and then it stats hitting it again. In Sol Survivor, it doesn't matter, they will fire through other towers and sometimes even through terrain if there are just small elevations obstructing the view field. They still however don't shoot through larger hills or bumps.

HAH !! A TD game IS one of the few pure strategy type games, as there are no tactical level decisions.
The nuke would not be useless if deployed where it would do little or no damage to your towers. That would be an early strategic decision you would have to make when placing your towers as you consider the possibility that you may be getting your ass handed to you at some point in the mission.

I don't like orbital support either. It's like a "get out of jail free" card. Real Td'ers don't use orbital support.
Like I said, it's just my personal opinion and play style preference. No offense intended if you are a orbital support using light-weight, tofu-eating pansy. :p

Towers shooting through other towers is a nit. I never really considered it a plus or minus either way.

I bought Defense Grid Gold from Impulse on the recommendation of some people here. I can't wait to play it but apparently Impulse has some 24 hour wait thing. I really wish they sold it in a retail box or something because digitial distribution is the sucks.

I've bought it through Steam and haven't had one problem with DG.

I'd also recommend Plants vs Zombies. Have bought it few days ago during Haloween deals on Steam and man this game is load of fun. It's a bit different kind of tower defense, but can fall in this category. The action is sometimes really intense, graphics are nice and it has a huge replayability value. Also zombies are really funny. Check it out. There should also be a demo if anyone wants to try it first.

Did you just create an account with them? Is it for account verification or something?

Yeah, it was a new account and it they had to "approve" the sale I guess. It is working fine now.

This makes me want to go back and start playing Defence Grid:Awakening again...

And yes, I have been playing this game since I posted last.:D
on this totally underrated game. I hadn't even heard of this game before and it turned out to be a great game...and only $2.50!

You can tell the creator of Cursed Treasure took a lot of idea's from this game.
