How To: Enable SLI on pre-i7/i5 hardware

Hi there,

I recently got two GTX580 cards which I was hoping to use in SLI mode in my HP z400. Since HP mentions some SLI-related specs in their datasheet for the z400, I thought the motherboard (X58) was "SLI ready". However, only after installing the two cards I found out I was wrong.

I tried the two most recent versions of the patch, but to no avail. Whenever I boot into the modified HAL/kernel setup, the system reboots before even showing the login window. This happens with 7 64 & NVIDIA drivers 262.99.

Apparently some other people in this thread were reporting problems with the GTX 580 recently, so I wonder if there's anything that could be done in order to solve this issue for all of us.

Bye, K&K,

Okay, I'll give it a shot with just one card. I also have a GTX 480 lying around which I'll pop in for testing purposes (only one of them though, so no real SLI test possible with that). As for the dump - what should I do? Just post the output of bcedit?

I just tried it with one GTX 580 and with one GTX 480 - with the same results as previously. The system reboots during booting without actually reaching the login screen.

Asrock 890 FX

Hi Anatolymik.

Thanks for the 0.91b patch.

It worked fine on my rig (Asrock 890 FX deluxe3, 2xGTS250, Windows 7 64 bits with 260.99 drivers).
I just had a small problem with the hal.dll coming from a previous (and failed) installation : no update or install available so I removed the patched dll, replaced it by a backup, and could apply the patch.

Большое спасибо

Installs patch, but still no SLI...

Has anyone had any success with an Intel S5520SCR motherboard? Before I bang my head trying to get a pair of 580's in SLI, just want to see if anyone has had previous luck with this MB.

Running 262.99 drivers... Patch .9B and .91 both install, and reboot successfully... But no SLI option in the NVidia contol panel...:wtf:

what version did you try?

Asus P5E64 WS Evolution use PLX bridge for PEG slots. Do not use slots via bridge, or SLI fail.
