ViewSonic Wins Vista Certification

ViewSonic said recently that its LCD monitors have won certification for the Windows Vista operating system (OS). New LCD monitors from ViewSonic shipped since December are compliant with Windows Vista, with the new models including the entry-level VA-series, graphics-use VG-series, professional-use VP-series and design-oriented VX-series, according to Alan Chang, vice president of ViewSonic for Asia-Pacific sales and marketing.

Manufacturers think it's modern to be " " certified. Vista certified monitors are just the same as other monitors with only one difference - they have "Windows Vista Certified" logo...
This is part of the "make me buy this one" policy...when you first see so many "certified" logos.....you look at it as a space shuttle.

This is nothing new. People have been forced into buying certified crap for a while now. If you forget when XP came out there were lots of programs and hardware that had to be XP certified otherwise there were potential "conflicts" and to this day there are some things you put on your computer that get that stupid little "may not be compatible with Windows XP Professional SP2". My mp3 player at the time didn't like XP and creative never released the firmware or an update to the playcenter to allow me to use it. You're going to go out and buy Vista anyway even if its just for DX10.

And as for the our little pirating friend...I hope you get busted because I wouldn't mind spending less money on software and more money on taxes to imprison you.

My favorite marketing scheme is when a movie is released in an "Unrated" Version. Tons of people think because it is unrated it must be filled with tons more nudity or violence, and get all excited and buy it. When all it really means is it contains material not evaluated by the Motion Picture Association. They could add puppy dogs playing with rainbows and sunshines to make it unrated. It's the same with the Vista logos, the sheep go for the shock value. I bet putting Vista ready stickers on their product has increased sales of the models with the logos. In fact, I'm almost certain of it.

Im not gonna get Vista for DX10. I mean sure, it looks awesome, but I think I will wait awhile (except for the new laptop Im getting next year around feb. for my wife). In my latest Maximum PC magazine, Vista is gonna be limited to transfering to one machine after you put it on an original machine. What sucks is, what quantifies as a new machine? Adding a couple pieces of hardware (new cpu, mobo, hard drive, fan, cooler, vid card, memory, etc) and then uh oh, I used my last transfer. After that, your screwed. Kind of whack if you ask me.

Yeah I bought a copy of Windows sometime in 1996. Since then I've had "newer versons" fall into my lap from time to time. Anyways I haven't bought a copy of Windows since then, and I don't plan on doing it now. Oh, and if it turns on and works, that's certification enough for me. This is a pc based operating system why should they or I care if my hardware is certified? This is microsoft blatantly pushing the customer to use products that are in the company's best interest. Other than that Windows works just great for me and keep up the good work Microsoft (you heartless corporate bastards).
