Technically, one of my 280s was a bad GTX 285 that I was able to flash to a 280. It seems to work just fine as a GTX 280, but couldn't get it operate correctly as a 285.

So i've noticed a couple things with this fermi gpu. It runs much hotter than the gtx 200 series. It's a lot louder as well. I pulled apart the cooler on it and lapped the cooler base to make it a little flatter. Then i cleaned it and applied new IC Diamond thermal paste. The heat pipes on the base require a ton of thermalpaste to fill in the cracks which isn't very efficient. The base should be flat copper like the gtx 500 series cooper vapor chamber cooler. Anyway even after doing all that with the overclocked speeds i'm happy with, being 800mhz core clock, 1600mhz shader clock, (850)1700mhz memory clock i'm still getting 90 degree Celsius load temps after 15 minutes of Furmark extreme burn in @ 1920x1080 full screen. This is pushing me into water cooling since I would like to buy another for SLI. I was wondering if you guy's were familiar with water cooling? I want to buy a lga 1366 socket cpu water-block for my 4ghz core i7 and another 2 gpu water blocks. I was wondering if a dual 120mm fan and a high performance pump would be adequite to keep an overclocked i7 and gtx 470 sli under 70 Celsius under load?

On the GTX2XXX series cards, keep core and memory clocks down, and push shaders. That's what get's you results. And with lower core, you'll typically get higher shader speeds. I'm getting 748/1656/1298 on my 285. If I went with say 800 core, my shaders may only do 1600.. or just crash. Don't worry about pushing the core, shader clocks get you the fps.... I suspect the same on fermi cards too.

I was thinking about water cooling my system at one point....I came to find out that for my Phenom II x4 940 and dual GTX 280s I'd need at least a 3x120mm radiator to provide enough cooling (or a 2x120mm and a 1x120mm). If you were running a single GPU, the a 2x120 would be enough. Adding that second card would really be pushing it.
Only thing really keeping me from going this route is money...plus I'd have to mod my case to fit a 3x120 radiator to it....and I just don't have the patients for something like that.
On a side note:
I pushed my GTX 280s to 681/1470/1185 (best stable clocks I can reach without having to mod the voltage) and I gained about 600 points to my GPU score for 3DMark Vantage. I'd post a pic, but I was too lazy and tired to do so.

Can you run 2 radiators on the same loop? Wouldn't that be optimum? So what Swiftech pump would I want to get for maximum performance?
Is there really coolant you can use that you could pour on your motherboard and not fry anything?
Could 2 radiators operate on one super powerful Swiftech pump? Running the CPU and GPU on the Same Loop? for limited space reasons?
One MCP655 will have no problems dealing with two radiators, one GPU block and a CPU block.

What about 2 GPU's and 1 CPU with 1 dual 120mm radiator or an additional single 120mm radiator? Does the radiator ever get hot to the touch? On say an sli core i7 rig on one dual 120mm radiator, does it get warm? With some powerful fans, you could potentially keep it cool, correct?

Well when the radiator gets warm, it shows that a majority of the heat is being dissipated from the blocks to the water. One example is when you have a heatsink with different metals, which are joined together with thermal paste etc provide low heat transfer compared to a solid piece of copper. My current setup, i'm using a Cocage true spirit which i lapped. The heatsink really doesn't get as hot as the core is and that shows how it isn't transferring heat as well as it could. Anyway if the radiator is getting hot, like really hot. That shows how well the heat is transferring to the water and therefore can be effectively cooled off with enough fan power. This all ties into the fact of my current air cooler not transferring all 80 Degrees celsius to the fins. Therefore not effectively being cooled off using the Scythe Ultra Kraze high performance fan. I might do some testing to really see what the component temps would be like using the single dual 120mm fan radiator. I have one more question. What's the next stage past water cooling? What phase changing cooling?
Keep in mind that Furmark is an extreme stability test. Chances are, normal gaming /benching will never work the gpu that hard. That is unless you plan on some serious OC. What are your gaming temps ?
Gaming with v-sync on, fps is steady @60 and gpu load bounces between 50-75%, instead of 100%. Doing this dropped the temps on my, waay to freakin hot, 9800gt by almost 20C lol...
First run on sli gtx285s. Still have almost 100mhz of shaders to go yet:

I'm running the GTX 470 lapped block and IC Diamond thermal paste. That helped temps a fair amount. I average 72-74C typically in the most demanding gpu intensive game. Furmark tears it up and pushes it to 90C. That's after 15 minutes on extreme burn in at 1920x1080. The overclock was 800Mhz Core, 1600Mhz Shader, and 850Mhz Memory @ 1012mv. It's weird how the GPU's run so cool when water cooled yet CPU's are hard to keep really cool compared to air coolers. Isn't an overclocked fermi pulling more power than an overclocked i7? I see people running furmark on a GTX480 at around 51C but water cooled CPU's run only roughly 10C less than a good air cooler on a moderately epic water cooling setup. Am i correct? I plan to use this Lian Li PC-V354 which i have already ordered for my next setup. I plan to modify it to mount a Phobya 200mm radiator and use a NZXT 166cfm 200mm fan to cool it. I'm not 100% on the CPU block yet but i plan to run Ek nickel gpu blocks. I don't know what's the smallest/best pump for this kind of config.
