Doesn't sound good. That's about 25% lower than the 580's reference clocks and last time I checked the difference between the 6990 and 580s in sli was less than 25%?

ignore it, the guy stated it was a guess. so i could just as easily throw up a number and be just as accurate as him. nda is 5 freakign days away, no need to waste time on guesses

Honestly though a 600mhz core does make sense in this situation. There's been a lot of reasonably reasoned predictions that this will only tie the 6990.

i know for sure that gtx 590 is the fastest of the 2 dual gpu cards but i also know it's way more expensive than the hd 6990 (can't reveal my sources though).
but i also know it'll be way more expensive. so i'm thinking to get the second gtx 580 and call it a day until the gtx 680 emerges

We'e heard these soothsayer remarks now for many moons. The stock reply is proof or it didnt happen.

Furthermore for uttering the words, "I know for sure..." and "can't reveal my sources" you shall be banished from TPU if you are actually wrong.

i know it from a reviewer who is also under the nda. it will cost more than sli gtx 570. i am not afraid of anything because i am that sure of the information. but it won't be worth the money, sadly. i wanted to buy it but i'll be better of with sli 580. cheers

Given the power requirement of GTX580 in SLI (with similar clocks) I find it unlikely that the GPU's will be clocked that high. The card would be drawing ~ 500-550w of power (again based on GTX580 in SLI), would the (dual slot) cooler be able to cope with this level of output?

The more conservative clocks of 612/1224 make sense from a packaging point of view but given that a HD6990 can some quite close to GTX580 SLI it doesn't make sense from a performance point of view.

The launch will be very interesting indeed. The HD6990, whilst flawed, has set the bar very high indeed.

Price yes but performance?

We already know how the GTX590 should perform in a best case scenario (GTX 580 SLI - also assuming that the clocks are the same for the 590).

Assuming it does perform the same as GTX 580 SLI (unlikely given packaging constraints) I wouldn't go as far as to call it astonishing. It *should* be marginally faster than the HD6990 in the tests that matter (very high resolutions) but unless they could somehow get it clocks faster than GTX580 SLI it won't be raising the bar massively.

Only a few days to wait now. When all is revealed, you're going to end up looking like a champ or a chump, depending on the review.

I for one don't think you're lying. But you can see how claiming such and such from a secret source and then it's not true will give you a liberal dose of egg-on-face? Large eggs, at that. But if you're right, then you'll be Mr Awesome with infinite street cred until the end of time! (Well, until the next graphics card release, lol).

Ultimately, the only way to convince us skeptics and Unbelievers is to show us the evidence... and that's gonna happen very, very soon.

At 61x core clock the GTX590 will have a hard time consistantly beating the HD6990 (again extrapolating from GTX580 SLI performance).

This sort of core clock makes perfect sense from a packaing point of view though. I think expecting full GTX580 speeds is asking too much on the current process node.

Flaws was perhaps too strong a word. I was alluding to the very loud stock cooler when the card is running at load.

The card itself is great, the performance more than you can ask for given the constraints of having 2 GPU's on one card but the cooler is the weak link.

I think he means the noise output. And maybe the warranty breaker switch. But i think the 6990 will stay on top when the 590 comes out. 580 sli still wins but it's all about getting that power on one board and i dont think NV can do it unless the board is made of asbetos.

yeah the fan. Seeing the word 'flawed', I thought it had an architectural bug of some sort.
