The GTX 590 NVIDIA dual GPU card thread

From the information I've read at least one user is saying he has a beta GTX 590. If this is true I can't see how one could transpose results to what people would buy vs someone who has a pre released product.

Come out already :P

Is it just me, or is the suspense killing other people too?

Just imagine what it's like for W1zzard having to keep it secret while speculation rages all around him!

I'd rather have them make the card bigger for a bigger heatsink, and have higher clockrates.

He's used to it. He has reviewed other cards with higher profile than the 590. W1z is a super-pro :D

and he has been doing it since before there was dirt! he is the best hands down

the game or that crap you find outside on the ground?

srsly want a review already! 1024sp's on one card is giving me the shakes.

How does AMD or nvidia make any money out of making a noisy cooler?

It's only the third party cooler manufacturers that benefit. It actually increases the cost, inconvenience and warranty risk to the card buyer and makes the card a less attractive purchase overall.

Makes more people happy and gives options to the buyer. It's only a warranty risk if your careless.

And i'd still take the fans of the cooler if it came with a good heatsink as they can be easily improved as they use fair crappy fans. Not seen one with fans that offer the best performance for installed heatsink. even the fans on the Twin Frozr i take of. Sure they might do the job but there cheapy ass fans. And lets face it most of the coolers on the cards are done for looks not performance.

Running mine on a MK-13 which i got the 48xx range. Point is if ya know what ya buying you don't have to keep buying new coolers anyways.

Oh yeah, all those non reference designs, of course, lol. <facepalm>

None ref cards i will not touch unless they got a good cooler on them and even then i would probably change the fans lol.

The pictures of GTX590 surfaced, along with a GPU-Z screenshot and some test results.

I believe the original article is from here. But don't worry, official release is only a few more hours.

Edit:
Oh BTW, the link you posted is now pulled. It auto links you back to their home page now.

well from the looks of those benches above when it comes to DX11 and extreme resolutions at least in 3dmark 11 the 590 loses to the 6990 in both stock and overclock via bios switch so i guess its wait and see on other benchmarks but its rather comical, considering if its true it makes the 590 launch lackluster and makes multiple ppl in this thread whom were just so sure the 590 would rape look pretty bad at this point lol, a few more hours and we get the full story, or a another day w.e dosent matter much, i think my argument of them being on par or the 590 being slight faster will be on point, then again at the price point the 590 sits at i hope it wins more benchmarks then it loses.

Looks like nvidia lost this one. Now i want a triple slot 6990

Would be cool if they invented a new way of doing sli in those two years, where the 2 GPUs work on the same frame and have shared memory...
Currently AFR rendering creates as many problems as it solves.

If it isn't as good as the 6990 in absolute terms (who knows if it'll be better overclocked) but is significantly quieter, it may not be a bad thing. I'd buy a lesser powered card (considering they both still kick serious bottom) if it was more 'comfortable' to live with.

Like I'd prefer a girlfriend who was a 7/10 than a 8/10 if the 8/10 model sat in the flat and farted all day and the 7/10 girl smelled of roses.

But if NV price themselves higher than a better card (which it looks like they will) I think everybody loses.

Still sticking with single gpu card (until my girlfriend isn't looking and i upgrade again )

NDA - not long now

The NDA lifts tomorrow at 2PM GMT everyone. :)

Judging by the benchies above, it's just enough to beat the 6990 by a small amount. Not great, really. Shame that power use limits are forcing the full performance of today's chips to be throttled back.

Oh, f* typical Charlie again

I've just read Charlie's anti nvidia rant about the 590 and I have to comment on it, it's so annoying.

GTX 480 released: he's all over it, criticizing it for high power use etc.

GTX 580 released: nothing. He's quiet as a mouse. No article, nothing. The 580 turned out to be a fine card, didn't it? In fact, so fine, that I've just dropped £400 on one and it's wonderful. I'll be posting about it, soon.

HD 6990 released: powerhungry, hot and loud m/f of a card. In fact, quite an inelegant brute force approach to performance according to Tom's Hardware. Ah, but that's all right with Charlie when AMD do this, innit?

GTX 590 released: once again he's all over it criticizing it for high power use, broken architecture etc. But hang on, this suffers all the same power issues as the 6990, but likely with a much quieter fan. Seriously, I think this guy needs a shrink.

The real problem is that we need next gen 28nm process technologies to make these advanced architectures work to their fullest. It's as simple as that.

http://semiaccurate.com/2011/03/22/nvidia-gtx590-cant-beat-a-hd6990/

From Tom's review of the 6990:

We’ve seen some elegant high-performance graphics cards from AMD, but this is not one of them. It brute-forces performance like a broadsword through cloth.

So, what does it take to dissipate the heat generated by a 375 W card?

Apparently, it takes a noise chart uglier than sin itself.

The problem is that AMD doesn’t use a graceful ramp. It instead steps fan speed up and down to address thermal demands. As a result, you hear the board’s cooler accelerating and decelerating like an engine when the driver downshifts coming up to a stop light.

Hmm, in AVP the GTX 580 scored 70 FPS and the GTX 590 scored 105 FPS. Thats with 1xAA. And FZ says that nvidia priced dropped the GTX 590.

seems like both of these dual cards are going to end up overpriced. pretty bad considering the 5970 launched at well below 5870 crossfire, even below 5850 crossfire prices and more than delivered on performance. Now we get dual gpu setups that cost the same or more than sli/crossfiring and have far less performance.

not really my 5850 xfire was far cheaper then 5970 by a mile then again i was lucky and bought them at launch when every tom dick and larry said wait wait prices will drop cause of nvidia 400 series blah blah blah lol. of course 3 months after launch your correct 5970 was on par or slightly cheaper price wise then a 5850 xfire setup

Yup, me too. £400 when i got 2 5850's, the 5970's were £500+.

yea i paid $259 per 5850 when i bought mine much cheaper then the $300-330 they settled at after a few months here stateside, eitherway dosent matter much, looks like the 6990 and 590 will trade blows niether company truly has the advantage over the other,

Rubbish, nvidia FTW! :rockout: :rockout:

Sorry, I've just got my shiny new GTX 580 only yesterday and I'm so pleased with it I'm still in fanboy mode.

If Physx was just a little bit more mainstream .... :(
