For now....AMD releases good drivers that put them up a bit and ride the wave of new customers while Nvidia does it's best PR to recover from it's Flagship GFX quite Literally going up in smoke...

Probly they already past the "launch and distribute" part of product cycle...Now they're in the "damage control" mode which involved halted production, rmas, new driver development and new product planning.

Too bad though, imo their GTX580 is really good gpu

That plus he basically admitted he was partially at fault for the miscommunication that lead to the 480 not being what it was thought to be performance wise(the 580). I think he is sinking the company through poor leadership.

Like I said before, they will be better off with new management. Unfortunately I don't believe that will happen. This poorly engineered card will result in a stagnation in prices on the high end most likely. Good luck grabbing a 580 at $350, or 6990 at $500 where the prices should be.

Possibly what could be killing it is the throttling of a PSU that isn't prepared for that much current load on the 12V rail. Isn't it the highest power consumption of any card when under high work load. Perhaps it could even kill some PSU's in the process.

nvidia is still a much better run company than amd's graphics card department. this is just one crap card in a lineup of extremely successful cards. amd makes some great stuff too but their management is terrible. and the stockholders know it.

not the psu`s that tpu or sweclockers are using , in fact most people with the money or need to buy this card allready have the top end psu - so if 1kw psu`s are throttling then there is a huge problem.

even if it was, that is not considered insider trading. if you are an executive and you believe your company is manufacturing crap which will eventually lower its stock price because of low sales then naturally you are going to want to sell your stock.

I believe the pcb and vrm situation on the 580 lightning facilitated a stable 1.35V, try that on a reference GTX580 if you dare. seems logical to me its not the GPU but rather the rest of the card that held back the 590, hec the GPU didnt pop the power circutry did.

perhaps a lightning 590 is in order MSI!

That just shows that GF110 itself can handle 1.35V fine. The VRM on GTX 590 is fail.

There's a reason AMD spent that much on Volterra+CPL based PWM on HD 6990.

No it doesn't. Fanboys will still buy crap in droves. Doesn't mean they are good products. Just means they have good marketing. (See Apple)

Now with that being said I like Nvidia and I don't believe they have shitty products. BUT they have had a few black eyes lately. Re-branding, Fermi, and now this. ATI has had nothing but win cards since the 48xx series. To top that off AMD and ATI merged. That alone will take YEARS to work out the kinks. Logistically and financially. You have to keep this in mind. Nvidia has one market to focus on and its been dropping the ball IMO.

To me they would have been better off not releasing the 590 until they were positive it would destroy the 6990. As it stands now its a PR nightmare. The 590 at its core is a launch fail and not something Nvidia needed right now. They need to focus more on the "bang for the buck" segment like the 470.

How a company is run is completely irrelevant to the consumer as long as he's getting quality products, and AMD is honoring its quality and warranty commitments.

Why did you have to quote me though? I said Huang is stupid for selling his shares once a month since December regardless of changes in stock price. I made no mention of Nvidia, the company, itself.

nvidia can handle this because their business strategy is far superior to AMDs and investors know it. the proof is in the pudding. AMD makes some great products as well but they simply cannot get out of their own way. i won't buy anything from a company whose management ruins everything the engineers create.

What's wrong with that? They're continuing to deliver quality products at competitive prices, have a better quality record as far as GPUs go, and are honoring warranties. Why should anything else matter to the consumer?

That still wouldn't explain the relatively bigger December stock sale. In context that would have been the more likely source of money for personal consumption since the previous sale was more than 6 months ago.
