Following recent video game trends the title will offer a very short and linear story. Almost no gameplay whatsoever and twenty launch DLCs, including a special pink banjo (normally obtainable by finishing a game) and a unicorn mount
I will buy it just for the unicorn mount.

Info about performance from that preview (google trans)
The tested version was obviously not the final version and was still suffering from numerous crashes, but the second version I could test at end of stay was already much more stable. The computer was a standard PC with a processor i7 870, with 8 GB of memory and a Geforce GTX 560ti, resolution 1900x1080 (22 inches required). Tested in all resolutions (Low, medium, high and very high) the game has always remained very fluid. After intelligence, the game will not support DirectX 11 at its output, but did not really suffer

Min Max detail comparison from the preview build

http://www.gamesaktuell.de/The-Witc...ischen-minimaler-und-maximaler-Grafik-819557/

At max detail, the game really looks like they are using tessellation. I bet they can advertise it as DX11 Game and no one will ever notice it :p.

that first one has the charactr model get better looking at the expense of the scenery behind him. I seriously doubt they're using tessalation. They're just pumping more polygons into character models at higher settings. Kinda like dragon age origins did. characters looked awesome, scenery meh.

That's got an air of Depth of Field about it. I don't think they've lessened the detail in the scenery, I think it's probably a DOF effect.

Hello,

CD Projekt RED has just set the date of its spring conference, which will take place on the 14th of April 2011 in Warsaw, Poland. With the release date of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings right around the corner, it is imperative for every fan of our series to be the witness of this event as it will provide you with a lot of useful information about the upcoming game.

The event will cover following topics:

- Minimum and recommended system requirements, as well as their effect on game's performance,

- Differences in specific language versions and censorship,

- Copy protection will be talked about in greater detail,

- Importing save-game data from the first part of The Witcher,

- REDengine details,

- And many more.

There is also a rumor that our friends at GOG.com might have prepared something very special for that day (not only in regards to The Witcher 2;). You should probably visit their website frequently to find out more.

The English part of the conference will be broadcasted live at facebook.com/thewitcher and the game's official website, www.thewitcher.com. The broadcast will start at 4:00 PM (GMT), make sure to tune in.

None of the video contain story spoiler (unless you count random chit-chat between NPC)

I my self have gave in looking at the vids due to the factthey will only start to spoil the surprises that the game holds. That's story or not it's all part of the game.

The combat is really good in this video. I guess that proved their statement that the combat is easy to learn but hard to master. the developer that play this video really make player on other gameplay video looks like a noob.
One of the best about this video is the ability to burn enemy corpses :rockout:

New Video (in Czech) from preview build showing a lot of stuff about gameplay (lot of spoiler)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sijdCV-EsXg

I'm pretty impressed from the content shown on this preview alone. it feel like it have enough content to be a standalone game from just one chapter alone (+ prologue). Pretty disappointed for the coverage from english media though. there is more then 20 preview from the preview build that i have seen so far and only three of it are in english :(

New developer diary

http://asia.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/the...oper-diary-5--character-development-and-items

I don't know how gamespot could get their hand in this developer diary but it was a new one (they didn't even have it in official website)

Talking about combat and character development, some new tidbit :
- Ability to combine bomb effect with sign (developer sad about ability to create a gas bomb and using igni to create an explosion).
- There will be new abilities received for completing quest.
- Geralt could gain a new information about monster by battling them.
- Ability to use a wide variety of weapon including oar and a wooden stick.

some new pic

Some people from escapist forum kind enough to translate some preview of the game
These are questions asked by random people and answered by a guy who got to play trough the entire prologue and first act of The Witcher 2. He's not a developer and his only ties to CD Projekt RED is the fact that the website he publishes for is owned by TW2 co-producer Agora. This, however, doesn't stop him from being surprisingly honest about the game.

Now there are two things I need to say:

1) I will not be translating the entire thing (I've got better shit to do like translations I actually get paid for). Everything that has been said in the developer's diaries and seen in the gameplay videos is essentialy true. What I will translate (not word for word, just to get the point across) are things that I (a person who is up to date with the news) didn't know before.
2) Some of you may remember me (then "Kukul") and the fact that I got banned for being a massive dickhead some time ago. While I don't mind the mods banning me right away I do ask them to leave this thread intact for the sake of The Escapist community interested in the game.

Ok, let's go:

Q: Do you need to tumble away in fights or is blocking enough?
A: It is probably enough in duels, but when there are more enemies you are dead without dodging and tumbling.

Q: How extensive is the interaction with the environment?
A: (Not word for word I remind you) It's sufficent, but not astounding. You can open crates and boxes, pick up herbs, destroy specific obstacles, hear lines from less important NPCs and have conversations with the more signinficant ones.

Q: Is the world alive?
A: It's alive as hell. The guard seargants are training their soldiers cursing them mercilessly, the drunks are sitting and talking about harlots, the thugs are telling stories to each other. People go about their daily lives etc.

Q: Are there many fetch quests and "kill X of Y" quests?
A: Almost none. Even if the quest is simply to kill something, you usually need to do the necessary research, figure out the right approach and find the monster which isn't always easy.

Q: What about importing the save files from Witcher 1 or inputing your decisions from it manually? (those are 2 questions but the answer is the same)?
A: It wasn't present in the version of the game I had. (I think this is entirely irrelevant since it's a preview build and the developers have stated countless times that this feature will be implemented)

Q: What about timed missions.
A (I have no idea what this dude just said, he makes two contradicting statements)... but there are moments when you need to act very quick or things will get bad.

Q: Is the dialogue Mass Effect/DA2 style?
A: Yes and sometimes even a few turns of dialogue can pass without your control. There are a few cut scenes when you don't get to choose any line.

Q: How is the enemy AI
A: They are no geniuses, but they can make organized attacks in order to surround you. They don't run away or beg for mercy besides scripted events. I've encountered a few situation-specific bugs, which will surely be fixed by the time of the release.

Q: How is the "mature approach to sex" thing working out?
A: There is sex. No anatomical details, but they show more than in any other game so far. It is however also believable, natural and well-directed. It's no "and here we'll put some tits" kind of thing. It's not porn, but erotica that fits into the plot.

Q: What other skills except intimidation there are?
A: In dialogues, except intimidation, Geralt has access to special options granted by his knowledge or can use the Axii sign, which is like a Jedi mind trick.

Q: Are there any books on lore?
A: More than we had time to read. They are short, however.

Q: What about equipment? Will we be able to carry 5 swords, 4 armors etc.?
A Not 5, but a few, yes. The components for traps, potions, armor and weapons take up a lot of space.

Q: How about equipment customization? How often do you upgrade?
A: In the time span of 10 hours I changed my sword 4 times, my armor 5 times, and as for gloves, pants and boots it was about 3 times. I put runes on my swords 2 times and upgraded my armor 2 times aswell. One armor upgrade was found and the other was made by the blacksmith according to a description (?). Neither of these things I have bought, all of it was loot and crafted, but I did buy a lot of crafting recipes and components.

Q: (In short) How easy it is to be neutral?
A: It is possible, but you will have to make difficult choices at some point.

Q: Are there obstacles that limit your movement or can you go wherever the hell you like?
A: There are, but they don't feel very limiting. It's more or less like the first game.

Q: How about the moral decisions? Are they bi-polar and how often and how much do they influence the game?
A: (Again this guy is incomprehensible, what I figured out is that the decisions are branching and they're never good or bad. There are a lot of them and their effects are "drastic")

Q: Is the style of Sapkowski's writing preserved?
A: It's darker than the previous game like the saga is darker compared to the short stories. There is still a lot humor and the style is preserved, but in English it was harder to catch all those "(exclusively Polish phrase describing contempt in an old-fashioned way) dragons".

Q: Is there a lot of running around?
A: Yea, there is some. Not too tiring, at least for my taste, but there is no fast travel so you have to go everywere by foot.

Q: Did the first impression about how awesome the plot/moral dilemmas was last? (he's refering to a short video they made)
A: It lasted and even deepened around the end of the first act.

Q: Where there any moment when you were genuinely surprised by how good the game was? (sounds awkward in English)
A: I didn't count but it was more times than I expected.

Q: Is the story really non-linear?
A: It is less linear than the last game, except this time you don't have those "You have done this and that, therfore this and that happens" type of cutscenes. You have to figure this out yourself, but when I reloaded and made a different choice a shitload of things have changed.

Q: Is combat an addition to the Witcher 2 or is it the core of the game?
A: It's closer to the first option, the game is still mostly about plot and decisions.

Q: Do monsters respawn?
A: I didn't do any grinding, but they seem not to respawn.

Q: Is the camera the same as in the Witcher 1?
A: No, there is only one option now: TPP without zooming in or out.

Q: Can you play this without playing The Witcher 1 or reading the books.
A: Yes, you can, but the game would loose a lot of flavor of the small things you'll recognize. I recommend playing TW1 first.

Q: How long did it take you to finish Act 1
A: About 3 hours for the prologue and 12 for the Act 1

Q: Would you buy this game?
A: I pre-ordered it just after finishing the prologue. Seriously. Someone may say that Agora ordered me to say this since they are co-producers, but the truth is it really is a great game. If you don't believe me wait until the release date, play it and then call me a liar. There will no such people, because The Witcher 2 is not absolutely perfect, but is way, way above it's competition.

This is the review of the first act in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, published on a Polish gaming site. You can use Google to translate it to English, but if you don't want to, here's a summary (I would've gladly translate the entire article here, but I'm not sure if it's legal to do so):

- It took at least 10 hours to beat the prologue and the first act (bonus time spent on replaying some parts to see different outcomes).
- The choices you'll make will have a visible consequences. A different choices in the first act will mean completely different main quests for the next act.
- Grey and Grey morality once again. Apparently, there will be two sides of the conflict (it isn't stated in the review what kind of conflict it is, but it is implied that it's something about the titular Assassins of Kings), and both have some rights.
- More references to The Witcher novels, as Geralt will start regaining his memory. Don't worry though, it's not necessary to read the books to understand the game. It's just a bonus for the readers.
- We'll meet Triss, Dandelion and Zoltan early in the game.
- Many sidequests, and most of them can also end up in a few different ways depending on your actions. The review briefly mentions a side quest, where you can meet a Troll who is an alcoholic. Sounds fun :p
- Hunting sidequests are still present. Geralt still has to learn about the creatures he has to kill, but in addition to reading books about them (learning their weak spots etc.), he can also learn it by practice ie. killing a certain number of a said monsters. To claim the reward though, Geralt has to destroy the monster's hive, eggs, the queen etc.
- Not much about the leveling system is revealed. The only thing I could read about, is that Geralt can learn bonus combat techniques like 'Counter attack' (apparently it's a roundhouse kick, Chuck Norris style), if you'll invest in 'dueling' skills. The fighting has been already covered elsewhere, left mouse button for fast style, right mouse button for strong style + combos. Seems like a standard stuff these days.
- The alchemy stayed the same. The only difference is you can drink the brewed potion only during meditation, which means you have to prepare yourself properly before bigger fights.

Bonus rumor I heard on a Polish gaming forum. Don't quote me on that, but it will be awesome if true - There are supposed to be 4 possible beginnings. Thanks to a save import option from the first Witcher, you can start a game in a three different ways, depending on who you helped in the last game (Order of Flaming Rose, Sco'iatel or nobody). The fourth beginning is for people who didn't import the save.

Some interesting point :

- You can turn the already unobtrusive HUD on or off by pressing ‘H’.
- The writing and the acting is even more believable than Bioware’s – and this has proper swearing in it.
- Combat’s certainly taken some cues from Batman: Arkham Asylum, just with a sword and some magic. Finishing moves are particularly entertaining, if you can pull them off.
- It’s absolutely never boring. Just when you think something’s simple… it won’t be.
- Choices, no matter how small, can either help you or bite you in the arse. A seemingly random throwaway chat actually rewarded me a few hours later. The Witcher 1 took the ball and now Witcher 2‘s running with it.
- There are animated comic-style cutscenes! These are used sparingly, and are pretty cool. Remind me of Thief in a way.

Toggle able HUD, best news all day :toast:.
