Codenamed Zephyr, Engadget seems to have gotten an early look at the revised version of the Xbox 360. One of the main improvements being anticipated is a 65nm processor, which should tackle heat issues, but it now appears that it is likely to feature a HDMI port and 120GB hard drive. This should allow the Xbox 360 to output high definition 1080p pictures, one of its criticisms, although the 120GB drive may simply be released at the same time rather than being part of the package. There is no pricing information yet but it is likely to be more or less the same - we can expect to get these upgrades "soon" according to an Xbox insider.

wonder what people with stuff 20GB can do to upgrade?...They would loose all their info...I would hate switching back and forth between the two drives.

The HDD for the 360 is basically a modified SATA drive (well the connections inside the system are SATA for the HDD and DVDROM)

i have to say pretty good mod ;) but to post it as "news" is kinda stupid and espically wasting space on this site,

It's news - ok, it could just be a mod but it could well be that it is the truth. What is so unrealistic about a story like this? I hope you plan on posting that same comment on every other site reporting on this. It's been on at least four other big sites I've seen.

which brings me to another point whos the retard that posted up "50meter long bug infects germany??

So you don't have a sense of humour? Ok fine, but other people do. Is it honestly necessary to insult the staff on this site? If you don't like the news stories, leave a comment in the appropriate section or don't read it. If I remember right that news story got a lot of responses, so other people clearly thought it was funny. Not all news is serious.

xbox 360 sucks and so does the ps3,

Have you even played those console or are you just anti Microsoft and Sony? What is it that makes those consoles so bad then? I haven't played a PS3 yet but can't comment, but I have played the Xbox 360 and it was pretty good. Games seem to run ok in most cases from my experience and the ones I've played on haven't crashed.

Yup, but they're 2.5" Laptop hard drives, not the 3.5".

Wow, I can't believe this happened. I need that HDMI Cable since my HDTV won't support 1080p through component (but haven't tried VGA). I should have just waited for this, now I'm pissed. I can't view 1080p! And I was supposed to buy the HD-DVD Add-On.

Hmm...why would they cover up the Manufacturing Date on the back? Seems a little fishy...

OK!! Why make statements without backing them up!! This is a 'tech' forum so why not state 'technically' why the XBOX360 sucks (as you put it)

Personally I think you should just stick your head back up your own arse and leave others posts alone!!

I'm anxiously awaiting for somebody to cry about how MS has ripped them off, since the new revision has a couple new "features".

Well, I need HDMI, and that's about it. A new hard drive wouldn't be bad, but I suppose they could just sell the 120GB hard drive by itself. But HDMI is what I truly need for 1080p, and if they release cables as well, not just the new console, I would be more than happy.

Just leave it, this is one of those things that won't get anywhere. Everyone always wants the last word, so let him have it and don't get into a flame war. That's what makes these forums great - 99% of the people on here will have a decent discussion and justify anything they say without throwing insults, so let's try and keep it that way.

Obviously people consider different things to be suitable for news. Like I say, feel free to leave any comments and feedback here.

I would expect them to release the cables for the original at about the same time - it seems unfair to force people to the new console to get 1080p when the hardware is already capable of it, but I suppose it is M$ so who knows what they'll do. The Wii only has 512MB of storage and that's all I think consoles should need tbh, but they are getting more and more like PCs and starting to need a hard drive to access in game.

I just found out that my Samsung HL-R5078W, is capable of having 1080p (1920x1080 @ 60Hz) through VGA (PC Input) and HDMI. So, should I buy the Xbox 360 VGA HD Cable? Would that work out?

Also, when I play on Live, I play on another HDTV which has DVI, but not HDMI. So, if I got the Xbox 360 VGA HD Cable, and use the DVI to VGA Adapter that came with my X800XL, would that work out, since DVI can carry both Digital and Analog signals?

Sounds good to me m8 ;) The 360 looks awesome on a monitor using a VGA cable :)

Damn it won't work...the monitor I play Live on has a slightly different DVI Connection compared to the adapter, so if I am to play on it, it'll have to be with Component, which isn't bad, but I'll only use VGA in the 50" HDTV.

Oh yeah, I don't have the Wireless Adapter for the Xbox 360, but I have a Living Room Computer with a Wireless Nic, so will it work from the Xbox 360 to the PC with an Ethernet Cable, then Bridge the two (Ethernet and Wireless) so that they share a connection throguh Wireless?

So:

Xbox 360 -> Ethernet Cable -> HTPC -> Wireless

So:

Did exactly the same thing with my PS2. Bridging the connection can sometimes be a pain, but it can be easier to use static IP addresses. Once it was setup, it worked fine. I don't see any reason why the 360 would work much different.

Wouldn't it be slow though since it's going from the 360 to the Computer and Wirelessly to the router?

What's the ping from your PC to your router? Mine was always 1ms or 2ms, so that added almost nothing and made no difference - the overall delay can't have been more than 5ms. I just remembered one of my mates does exactly the same thing you plan to - sending his 360 through his mac book and online is fine on that. There may be a small delay, but nothing too big, it shouldn't affect your gameplay noticably.

Edit: my PS2 and his 360 had no lag. Obviously that may depend on your wireless gear, my Belkin stuff works very nicely other than the fact the setup options are a little too basic.
