I don't have a spacious, multiple PCIE slot motherboard. So with a new, bigger video card, the card is extremely close to the PCI slot. Will that cause a problem, with something in that slot?

I haven't updated my specs, don't know if I should until the parts are all working.

I didn't get it quite well, you have anything on the PCI? Or the slot is free but the card is touching it?

You have to provide some more info like:
What video card is it that is going to be occupying that slot?
What is going to be in the PCI slot above the video card?
Are you going to overclock anything at all in that system of yours?
Is the card a single-slot or dual-slot cooler design?

560Ti, a PCI wireless adapter. I doubt I'll be doing any overclocking.

A 560Ti should be fine in that situation, they don't run very hot at all. I think you should be fine, given that your case has decent ventilation (2-3 case fans).

Should be fine, as long as its not in a sealed case with no airflow. WiFi cards don't put out much heat to cause a problem, its the gpu suffocating that worries me.

Is the system in a case?

It's in a case, I don't have a picture right now. It doesn't seem to be covering much at all, but they are close.

its only a problem if they touch as the video card sags down a bit, or if the PCI card blocks the intake for the fan

but i should worry to the fan, since its pretty close maybe the fan aint gonna draw enough air to cool the card

usually the fan is back far enough (or high enough, wifi cards arent that tall) that well over half of it isnt blocked, and causes no problems.

yeah, but if the case airflow is good may help reduce temp much

yeah, but if the case airflow is good may help reduce temp much

airflow in the case only removes the heat once its been blown off the GPU via its heatsink, if his GPU fan is blocked it might as well be passively cooled - and case fans dont help at all there.

Depends on where the fan is. If the card blocks the fan, you may run into some increased temps.

It may affect a card like this:

But not one like this, because the fan is far away from where the card would be:

Unless you have something like

Running SLI should be fine because there are three spaces apart (between the two PCI-Es) with most SLI boards.

if the lan card is on the backside of the card and not the fan side, it wont cause a problem at all.. If its on the fan side then it may block airflow and hurt cooling..

Just use a 1/2 size PCI wireless card or pull it out all together and use a USB wireless. really do you have to run wireless. Great GPU and wireless connection is not the best match for online gaming

I also wireless and game just fine... ask anyone whos played bc2 with me.

This is a non issue as long as the fan side of the GPU has no blockage and the case has the usual airflow.. /thread
