Realtek Drivers (I think)

I can't figure out what the problem is with my audio. I just reformatted my PC and i cannot get the audio to work unless i plug in a headset and listen through that. I've (tried i guess since it isn't working) installing the drivers, but i'm still getting no results. I keep getting the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" with a yellow question mark next to it in the "Other devices" in my device manager.

It's pretty much identical to this (below) but I get an "must uninstall current drivers" etc when i re download my nvidia display drivers.... that just doesn't seem logical, but i'm a comp noob so i may be wrong... And im pretty sure im using SP3 for XP anyway... Any help?

First Welcome!...

Second what Motherboard are you using?

Third it would be a good idea to filled up your system Specs

could you be a bit more specific? what kind of headset are we talking about here?

if you mean you unplug speakers and plugged in headphones, then your speakers are just broken or something.

If you tell us what motherboard, then we can tell you what drivers.

Not to sure... Any easy way to check without opening the case?
Again, not sure whatcha mean or how to do it :(

It was a turtlebeach USB headset. Like i said above, not to sure how to check the motherboard :( Sorry. Mind telling me how? Even if i open up the case, i'm not sure if im tech savy enough to know whats the motherboard.

Are you saying that if you listen through the USB headset, there's no problem; but if you try to listen with onboard sound, you could not hear anything?

Download CPU-Z from here http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html Once downloaded run the program and click on the motherboard tab, This will give us more info on your motherboard such as who makes it.

rightio, before more people get confused:

He used a USB headset, which bypassed his sound card. thats why it worked.

He identified his chipset as 680i, which unfortunately doesnt narrow down what sound card he has. its possible generic Nvidia drivers may cover it, but we still need to know for sure.

CPU-Z is the best way to ID what motherboard you have (and CPU, ram, etc - useful program)

edit: the nvidia drivers for that chipset and XP are here: but they do NOT include audio. CPU-Z is your next step.

Uggh. thanks alienware! they've hidden the damn mobo's name from us.

Since you have an alienware system, do you know its model number?

edit: i'm off to work for the next 6 hours or so, so someone else should be able to take it from here. we just need to find out what soundcard you have, and get you the appropriate XP drivers.

"INTEGRATED AUDIO C51XEM2AA SOUND CARD"

edit: never knew they upgraded the motherboard... lol. though it was just a fan

Try to uninstall your current Nvidia driver, reboot, then install the latest nvidia driver.
