Intel has confirmed that they formed the "Visual computing group" which shall be the future of computing for "high-throughput workloads". Intel is already looking to hire graphic engineers for this purpose. Together this might suggest Intel is indeed going to create chips for add on cards once again.
Even though the high end market is quite small compared to on board graphic processors it still has a value of $5 billion a quarter, which is a lot, even for a giant like Intel. Having their own high end GPU would also give them a chance to strengthen their grip on the console market.
Intel did not comment on these speculations.

Well then youd have xtreme intel fanboys and xtreme amd fanboys. And then Nvidia would have to start manufacturing cpus.

yea true it would be pretty hard imo to get into graphics its been Ati and Nvidia dominating for a long time now but intel do have the money if they were to make a great graphics at good prices i would probably get intel graphics :D lol

this makes sense what with amd buying ati, and nvidia not interested in a takeover, also semi off topic, i wonder how ati will improve amd, what with ati chips being very fast at folding and other non graphic processes, obviously it takes a good while to merge such complex technologies, but we could well see something very powerful turn up a year or two from now?

When was the last time Intel got kick ass in the Vid Card market?
They better make something worth while buying, or else they should just get lost once again.

this will only be good for the consumer and hopefully with Intel now a valid participant intel may drive prices down. I wonder why they haven't just bought matrox rather than starting roughly from scratch.

I hope they pake a G/CPU instead of a video card :)
I believe that would be very fast. future Quad core = 2 cpu 2 GPU at 2+ghz? :)

Every time you make a mistake you learn something at least.

This is a big thing... Now we have the integration of a cpu and a gpu. That means really good transfer rates!!!

now we need to get nvidia making mobos, cpus, and ram more lol.

I wonder why they haven't just bought matrox rather than starting roughly from scratch.

But are they really starting from scratch? Their onboard Integrated Graphics chipsets actually make them the biggest GPU producers at the moment on any case. If they come up with killer high end GPUs (or combined G/CPUs ) that beats AMD and Nvidia they could effectively monopolise the market :twitch:
