With the release of the Wii towards the end of last year, coupled with the success of the Nintendo DS, Nintendo saw a nice boost in profits between April and December last year. Profits over that period hit the equivalent of $1.09bn, up 43% from the figures a year earlier. This success has led Nintendo to predict a further 28% rise in profits for the year up to 31st March. The manufacturer has revealed that it reached its target of shipping four million Wii consoles by the end of the year, with the PS3, one of the major competitors, suffering production issues.

Of course the Wii made profits - they charge $60 for an extra WiiMote+Nunchaku : and their POS games that you can download cost $5-10 each... On top of all that, the Wii prob costs $50 to produce - w/a maximum resolution of 640x480. how ghey. The wii-mote is very gimmicky right now - it doesn't work like you'd expect it do - so that makes all games very akward to play, especially WarioWare.

How dare you say classic NES/SNES/N64 games are a POS. To speak of it is heresy

Use this site: http://www.xpbargains.com/wii_locator.php

I managed to get a Wii from Walmart using this tracker -- they also have link where they'll help you set up "RSS Alerts" to alert you on screen on your computer when their tracker updates with someone new having something in stock.

A lot of the places have bundle purchase requirements, though, like buying craploads of games and other such add-ons -- Amazon has sold a few outside of bundles, Target and Circuit City have very nice bundles (usually an extra controller plus Madden and/or Zelda), and Walmart has huge 6/7 game bundles but once you get them you can return any games to your local Walmart store and get full retail box price back (since even though you're purchasing a bundle Walmart.com's receipt that comes in the box with the games is itemized for each game at retail price).

NES games like Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Punchout!, Kid Icarus, Castlevania, Mega Man, and Duck Hunt, SNES games like Zelda: Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, and the original Star Fox, and N64 games like Ocarina of Time, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Star Fox 64 are some of the best games EVER. I still regard Star Fox 64 as the best in that series, and Punchout! and Duck Hunt on the NES can still provide hours of endless fun. If these games aren't on Virtual Console yet, I certainly hope they will be.

(My Wii is scheduled for delivery today!!!!!)

Do you own a Wii? The controller works exactly how I would expect it to... what did you think it would be like? I don't plan on using the virtual console, but remember Nintendo aren't the only one charging for downloads like that. $50 to produce is a joke - they're making a nice profit yes, but not that much.

There was a post two weeks ago or so, saying how much it costs nintendo to produce the wii. Nintendo does get space in the circulars, on the other hand, the PS3 isnt. Im glad nintendo got a nice boost in profits. They deserve it. And its true, Wii's everywhere are sold out. I want one so bad too...

It costs at least $150 US to produce according to most breakdowns, but Nintendo is the only company making a profit off selling consoles of the big 3.

Maximum resolution of 640x480.... no, it's 480p, which on widescreen displays is 720x480. And the vast majority of consumers don't need more.... less than half of all households have even 1 HDTV.... I don't have any.... But the picture is plenty clear anyways, they sacrificed graphics power for price and size and with such a novel input device... they made the right choice.

And the remotes? A new Sixaxis controller is about the same price... an Xbox 360 wireless controller is about the same price.... I don't see how this is any different.

And your experience and opinion may vary, but I have found most games to have very intuitive control using the remote/nunchuck... very rarely is it awkward, and almost always acting out the action will get the console to respond properly.

I agree the controller works like I expect.
Benpi,
As for graphics...thats not why you buy a Wii...Thats why I have a PC. FPS is a must on PC, second choice would be on a Wii.

4million X $250= a shitload of cash!
