OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

For anyone that's not hardcore tweaking and looking for better FPS... I turned my AA to 0 and can run everything else on ultra except shadows (medium) and it runs smooth as butter. As soon as I put 2x AA back on then the FPS drops drastically. Pretty obvious as there's a zillion edges to smooth but just thought i'd contribute.

Try running the enbpatch and report back if you still get a drastic drop in FPS's with AA on.

Yes! Finally got 100 enchanting, took damn long enough going around killing mudcrabs for their souls and enchanting everything I could steal.
Anyway heres what I ended up with, still have 10 filled grand soul gems for recharging the weapons,.

Nice tho I think you left some major parts out such as how and where you got all those grand soul gems plus the souls to fill them. Not from a mudcrab, that's for sure.

I feel like everybody is so far ahead of me somehow though. Maybe need to concentrate on specific things more.

Cheers man, any idea how I'd get that working with this?

What is this/what does it do exactly?

Played through the emerald claw quest, reforeging the amulet was sick. Multiple boss battle, tons of loot, and epic journey.

Edit, euphoria mention everyone should have at least lvl 40ish Archery. I figures this out and have been trying to lvl up, only at 29 atm.

Anyone know where I can get a killer enchanted bow?

i feel the same way. im far into the stories but my character is only level 19. either i am doing something wrong or other people *ahem* cheating.

Hmm running the enb patch turned down AA from 8X to 4X, lowered my LOD and Distances settings from recommened witih Crossfire to Ultra EX (Max for a single Card) and still get the same FPS... :banghead:

Could it be the textures mods? I have a 2GB card and I'm running the 4GB .exe

Need to find out what causes all this lag outside.

The Thieves Guild quest line is very hard. Especially if all of your perks thus far went to Smithing, Enchanting, Heavy Armor and One-Handed, and those four skills are the only ones higher than 30.

I progressed a bit further for the Dark Brotherhood (since you can kill anyway when you're caught, lol).

I'm only lvl 19 but Destruction is lvl 44. I spread my perks over Restor, Destruction, and Conjour, have a couple in Arch, Speech, and even one in 1-hand combat.

I dont know how people have 100 lvl anything and Legendary Dragon armor they smithed themselves.

the most efficient way to level in every elder scrolls game is to use skills. whether they are ones you care to level or not, using them only helps you level faster. so use those illusion and alteration spells even if you don't care for them - as they are easy to level with. but all skills do it, so block, etc.

also, you level up soooo much faster if you don't follow the storyline. you can beat both main stories before level 20 - i'm level 48 now and haven't finished either. exploring on your own, and using your skills are what level you up. don't go for the quickest kill - go for the one that uses the skills you want to level.

so explore dungeons and take out bandit/forsworn camps. use your skills as much as you can, even when you don't need it to beat the enemy. do the little side missions as they rack up fast.every kill, every skill level, every lock pr pocket picked, etc levels you up.

it seems obvious, but i don't think it is. when i follow through the main stories, i barely level - but when i do side missions and clear camps on my own, the points come faster than you'd think.

ok, and one more cool thing i found, if you happen to mine - if you stop the process after the first ore/gem is added but before the second, and then start again, you will always get something in 3 hits. since each vein has 9 hits, if you stop after every third you can get 3 ores/gems every time you mine, rather than 10% of the time.

because they don't spread out, they focus on one thing and level it to max. sneak is the exception imo, as if you stay sneaking it levels up all the time almost, without focusing on it. i'll be 100 in sneak in the next hour, but have done nothing other than use the skill to do that. i've played 85 hours, i'll check my actual game time when i load it up next. probably close to 60.

tl;dr - if you focus on one skill you max that skill quickly, if you go to the other extreme and level every skill whether you like it or not, your character levels faster. oh. and mine properly, you get more!

I played to lvl 20 just doing the college main quest and the main quest, then went lvled my smithing and enchanting to 100 selling off a lot of my accumulated loot in the process, and just upping my smithing and enchanting I'm lvl 30 now.

yeah, exactly. alchemy's good for that too. taste ingredients, make potions and toss em or sell em, the xp is more important :)

My Orc Warrior is level 30 and I only went to the Grey Beards (just to learn the shout things). Otherwise I have maybe done 2 - 3 side quests and thats it, I spend most of my time exploring the mountains and cave diving. The terrain just is amazing and I get lost on my way to do a quest, sometimes I will set out for a new capital to turn in a quest and it will literally take me 2 - 3 real days to get there (not play time, but 2 - 3 days of a week of me playing a few hours each day).

Also my friend (he is insane) was level 42 I think on the 3rd day it was out, might have been 4th day. He is already burnt out of the game, but he played a ton, so his fault.

Dwarven ruins are stupid. Just raiding Mzulft got me 499 dwarven metal ingots...

if you turn up the shadow resolution to more than 4096 (8192 for example)
the game will eat more than 2gb of videoram... its as simple as that.... result is a game that pauses every few seconds, and lags at the same time. ;)

Not quite the whole story though. No lags and fps drops outside, but there are such when inside. The vRAM ends up being a bottleneck for me unless I reduce it to 4096.

That is just it. My shadows are on 4096 and I'm still getting 14-22 FPS outside or at least in this one area I am at (it isn't snowing so I can see everything, might be why it is more taxing).

I can't put my finger on it but something is causing this abnormally low FPS.

I'll try and figure it out, but if someone has any other advice.

Search for the roaming Khajits, the old man usually sells some good enchanted bows. If he doesnt have any, try saving in front of him and reload the save.. The goods he (or any other vendor) sells change up from time to time.

I get most of my gear pickpocketing (lvl 100 pickpocket:rockout:) character at lvl 27 now haha.

Search for the roaming Khajits

First time I encountered them was just hours ago, some place west of Windhelm. And I already played a lot before that, and that was the first time I saw them.

Haha:p
I first found them by Whiterun, now they are currently outside of Markarth, damn Khajit gypsies

One of them has an enchanted frost Axe, If you can pickpocket equipped items:rockout:

Gives me 10 extra frames per second on ultra : ] (AA is still fine so is AF)

Matters what other tweaks you are running, you do have the vRAM to run good shadows, but you are going to really push that 5870. I'm running a 6950 with shader unlock and a 150mhz OC on my GPU and a 203mhz OC on my RAM. Also, are you still running that CPU speed? Or is that your peak clocks? Because once you start upping shadows, Skyrim hammers CPU's, hit mine hard enough that I finally got it into gear and OC'd mine to 4ghz.

Holy crap, people still have tube tv's.....

You gained 10 fps from that fps limiter mod I linked?

Played over 100 hours and only received one dedric artifact that I know of.
Have full dragon armor at the moment though.
Still working toward 100 enchanting.
Make some iron daggers, buy/find petty, lesser and common soul gems.

When it comes to fps drops using the ENB patch, people have been mentioning a -10fps drop which I have not encountered.

Turns out the only graphic changes I have made are X2AA and X4AF.

If there is any noticeable fps drop normally, it's in markarth.

I sorta cheated to level enchanting, I gave myself the petty soul gems instead of hunting for them... so far you can go through hundreds and hundreds to get anywhere near 100 and with Azura's Star you can only fill it once despite it being an unlimited type of soul gem, you will have to travel back and forth hundreds of times to get to 100 lol.

had an epic/annoying fight recently, a dragon and a dragon priest/krosis. And im a light armored stealth type so things are pretty challenging. As usual hit and run tactic with some minor adjustments and manage to best em both, dragon encounters for me are still exciting >8D

No from the dll I linked to :toast:

Also has anyone notice GPU usage in town is about a 33% ?

Explains why it's so damn slow in town.
