CTL Releases the MB40U 14.1-inch Ubuntu-Running Notebook

Portland-based CTL Corp. has recently launched its very first Ubuntu-based laptop, the business-oriented MB40U which features a 14.1-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display, Sandy Bridge power, and runs the latest Ubuntu release, version 11.10 aka Oneiric Ocelot.

CTL's Ubuntu-flavored notebook is equipped with a Core i3/i5/i7 processor, up to 8 GB of RAM, up to a 500 GB hard drive or an SSD with a capacity of up to 512 GB, Intel HD integrated graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n/ WiFi, Bluetooth, a 3-in-1 card reader, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, D-Sub and HDMI outputs, and a 6-cell battery enabling up to 5 hours of use per charge.

Have you ever used Ubuntu before? Oneiric Ocelot is more of a code name. If you don't have nothing useful to add do say anything at all.TROLL!

@breathless ubuntu is free for tekkies, they dont expect the unwashed masses to use it so they dont look for catchy names to market

Are Intel's code names for its CPUs any better? Or AMD or Nvidia for their GPUs?

CTL MB40U Ubuntu-Running Notebook

This is kinda really stupid. I mean what's the point? Ubuntu is freeware and gets upgraded twice a year. I'd rather buy a laptop with clean ssd than this. Because then I could install any Linux version I desire without wasting ssd cycles.

Price seems rather steep for bottom rung model. Why would anyone go for this computer over the offers from more established brand names ? Ubuntu is free anyway so notebook without an OS (or with FreeDOS) from those companies would do just fine.
