NVIDIA Delivers the GeForce 296.10 WHQL and 296.17 Drivers

Santa Clara-based NVIDIA Corp. has today made available a couple of new graphics drivers, the WHQL-certified GeForce 296.10 for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, and the GeForce 296.17 preview driver specifically made for Windows 8. Both drivers feature support for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 series desktop cards.

GeForce 296.10 WHQL Release Highlights:

Adds support for the new GeForce GTX 560 SE GPU.
Updates PhysX System Software to version 9.12.0213.
Boosts SLI performance in the following games:
- Blacklight: Retribution - up to 1.8x performance increase
- DiRT 3 - updated DX11 profile to improve menu performance
- Dishonored
- Dungeon Defenders
- F1 2011 - improves performance with game patch 1.2
- rFactor 2
Adds 3D Vision support for the following games:
- Dear Esther - Rated Good
- Deep Black: Reloaded - Rated 3D Vision Ready
Includes numerous bug fixes

Are you kidding me? They take five months to release a new driver and now do a new one just three weeks after the latest WHQL.

These do not offer much over 295.73. Nothing really worth upgrading for.

Windows 8 automatically Downloaded and installed this for me two days ago.. I was a bit impressed, and and a bit concerned. Not sure if I want to look up driver changelogs every time I use Windows auto update.

Yeah...except for the SLI crowd running a couple specific titles the only diff seems to be the WHQL.

That timeline is an exaggeration. We're only talking about ~3 months, but in that time we had 4 perfectly good beta drivers released.

The reason for this release however is the addition of Windows 8 to the driver stack. No "special drivers" like AMD has you googling all over the place for.

They claim "game changing" performance increase of up to 45% for Skyrim.
