AMD Launches Graphics Triple Play: 3 GPUs in 3 Months, Availability of HD 7800 Series

I've decided I hate these cards, and think it's pretty ridiculous to act proud of throwing this shit haphazardly onto the market. After playing with a few I can safely say I've never seen such an array of critical and phantasmal bugs. The black screen/freeze on or after monitor wake-up, the stuck in 2d clock crap, the alarming voltage fluctuations and fan speeds that keep defaulting to 50%. Oh and apparently the cursor bugs are back. And this is just desktop use.

I just hope they can figure this all out with drivers rather than it turning out to be faulty hardware. That's already been the case with some of the Asus cards, though that's their fault not AMDs.

And the dull "1Ghz" marketing thing. MYGAWD this has to be stopped. Alright we get it, you got a card that works on 1Ghz besides the fact that it costs like an HD6870 and performs like an HD6790.

Can't deny AMD Radeon GPUs were first with 28nm.. but hope AMD doesn't start bragging too much.. as 28nm yields improve going forward, they should try to pass the cost benefits to the consumers.. that will probably put pressure on nvidia too..

That's an interesting piece of information. People with 7970 seem to be happy with their cards, well most of them. Never heard of anybody who has a 7770 and the 7800 series are just out.

What I find funny is most people who bitch about the problems dont do it to the right people, aka the developers themselves. Thats what the Reporting process is for the Cat Drivers.

I know this is weird time n all, I honestly like to see a 2 GB model 7770

well, that would be interesting for a budget multi-monitor setup... and i guess u would love to have the PCS+ version.. however i dont remember seeing 2GB versions of 6770 or 5770..
it might happen with 7770, who knows.. but going by current prices.. 7770(1GB) costs around 160$ and 7850(2GB) is around 260$.. adding another 1GB of RAM to 7770 could drive the price to 200$+... which might not find many takers given the price of 7850..
i am not denying the possibility of a niche card but it might take some time..

I was hoping for an Asus 7870 triple-slot to replace my 6870DirectCU whose fans run at 15% in auto mode, since the triple slots run at 10%. Always room for improvement!

...Oh well, I'll just wait on the 8870 triple-fan quad-slot.

This all very interesting, but not every one is affected by these problems. Well at least not me I have two HD7970's and I have not one single issue you just mentioned. I honestly never buy AMD/ATI cards because of posts like this, but when I was buying they where the fastest cards out there. I am glad I did, as AMD has not been disappointing to me so far, and it was nice to mix it up once in a while.

I would love to see more links and proof of these problems, and I am not asking for it because I am calling you out or anything, but to further educate my self on these AMD issues. Again, I have had 0 of these; therefore, I guess I should feel lucky huh.

Just checked on some prices in Europe, in Germany the 7870 is at around 350 Euro while a GTX570 can be had for around 250 Euro, in my country a Gigabyte it's the equivalent of 385 Euro while the cheapest GTX570 is at 290. If you ask me this is plain and simple a ripoff.

Yup I know just what he means, my first Asus 6870DirectCU was way buggy, with strange intermittent screen freezes out of sleep mode and black screen/driver recoveries. It would work just fine for 3 or 4hours and then all the issues came at once. I don’t know how it works around the globe but in the US you send your card to Asus Repair Indiana, they power up the card for 5minutes and send it back to you, same card same issues. I then used the live Asus chat explaining in detail, and they were great sent me a brand new 6870 advance replacement from Asus headquarters in Fremont CA, free shipping and they paid return shipping for my old card. Just talk to Mike in Motherboards he is “the man” for replacements. Have an Ivy Bridge build planned including an Asus Maximus 5 Extreme mobo(if it ever gets announced), if any issues arise I am confident Asus and Mike will handle it with ease!

...and the replacement card zero issues.

I dont know if anyone really cares aboiut the 7 series of cards - all of these cards bring nothing new to the table and the price and performance is the same as current available options.

Maybe brand new builds will go for them to get the power consumption savings, but for anyone who already has a decent card, there is no path to upgrade in the mid range segment. Sure you can go the uber high end route, but not that many people have $550 plus tax and shipping lying around.

People who don't upgrade every single generation will be interested in the 7xxx series due to performance increases, along with increased power efficiency.
Same can be said for the new Gtx series.

Only enthusiasts, and benchers really need the latest and greatest because they are addicts.

If you're not seeing these problems talked about try visiting other forums. Hardforum has had a good number of posts, and overclock.net has many posts but for the most part they're hidden in their massive 600 some page HD 7950/7970 Owners Club thread. I don't understand why these issues don't affect everyone because I've tried clean installs, installing over top of older drivers and after deep cleaning using the Atiman uninstaller. Which makes me wonder if there really are bad batches of reference cards floating around out there.

Given what you've tried sounds like a card problem. It's hard in your case as you have no other 7XXX to swap, but I'd bet it's not drivers but a card issue.

I got a XFX 6750 that was perfect exept when came out of sleep it would artifact like crazy. Did all the stuff like you did for drivers, clean reinstalls and it did it consistantly. Changing nothing on drivers just pull that card and went to 4650 I had lying around... and no problem, pulled a 6790 out of something and tried it... right out of sleep again. Put back in the XFX 6750 right back to having the problem; RMA to Egg and that new card did the same thing! Which I would consider highly illogical. After more futzing with drivers again, and cards that would wake fine, I bought a Diamond (locally) switched cards and nothing else... and never had a issue since.
