i want to see how far the Intel Xeon X5690 could go, i reckon 8-9 Ghz

Since the X5690 isn't the same gimped die as the 3960k. I suspect it doesn't overclock at all since it has a locked multiplier and if you go more than a couple mhz over the stock bclk it will crash on you. Xeons aren't designed to be overclocked, they're designed for stability, that is why it is a server CPU.

whats that entropy?

amd have nearly a 2 ghz advantage in speed and they still cant beat its benchscores?

well done amd, you built a fast chip that can do fuck all....

LN2 benchmarks are eye-candy. Since CPUS can handle LN2 24/7 and since LN2 is a viable 24/7 overclock. It really doesn't matter, it's just a "look what we did!" kind of thing.

it will sort the men from the (fan)boys.
Don't start a flame war.

Ivy Bridge gets 95W TDP, worse overclocker than Sandy Bridge (with conventional cooling)
the 95W says it all.. where is your promise of efficiency@77W Intel??!!!

"It seems the blame for these shortcomings is being placed on the 22nm Tri-gate transistors which have further increased transistor density in an already small die size, so much so in fact that heat can't be removed quick enough with air or water for high clock speeds."

Someone invented a cure for that: it's called "Run it @ lower clock speed". I'm told it works great.

I hope u r being sarcastic

You noticed? That's great, dude: bravo

I was, ofc, referring to them stock clocks. Doesn't Intel already have a huge lead in IPC? Why is there a need for the huge clocks as well?

If @ 3.5 GHz the heat is very high, then clock it @ ... say ... 3 GHz: it will still be faster then AMD's offerings (i'm assuming) and the heat will be much more tolerable, no?

ES vs. retail. Some of the rumors/previews going around with retail chips aren't doing very well.

this is a retail CPU, :) E0 was the stepping that did 7ghz, this however is E1 as the stepping isn't shown. If it was E0 the stepping would show. E1 is retail stepping.

As Hayder_Master said, 6.6ghz at 1.056v is a complete fake. Perhaps CPUz is not reading the VCore properly? Or there is some photoshop happening :)

Benchmark Scores Epeen!! Who needs epeen??
Not bad, a good sign of thing's to come i would imagine :)

Like everyone else i too am more interested in "standard" type (Air/Water cooled OC) as that is more relevant to the masse's but we need people pushing the tech to it's limit's to show what it's truly capable of :rockout:
