GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, today announced the GIGABYTE Classic Challenge, its latest overclocking competition hosted on HWBOT.org. Open until August 15th 2012, the GIGABYTE Classic Contest combines two classic stages, great prizes and a small twist.

Overclockers are asked to compete on two classic benchmarks 3DMark 01 and Super Pi 32M with a GIGABYTE X79S-UP5 motherboard and a GIGABYTE X79-UP4 up for grabs. The twist? Simple. If one entrant has the raw talent to claim both stages, GIGABYTE will also award a bonus prize of a forthcoming GIGABYTE F2A85X-UP4.

GIGABYTE Classic Challenge Stages
  • Stage 1: 3DMark 01 Full Out - Multi GPU Allowed
  • Stage 2: SuperPi 32M - CPUs Locked at 4.5GHz

Limitations:
  • Entrants can use any GIGABYTE Z77 series motherboard and must also use the official competition background. Retail hardware only. Usual HWBOT submission and verification rules apply.
Prizes:
  • Stage 1: GIGABYTE X79S-UP5
  • Stage 2: GIGABYTE X79-UP4
  • Bonus: GIGABYTE F2A85X-UP4
The GIGABYTE Classic Contest is open to all HWBOT members until August 15th, 2012. For more details, competition rules and standings, please visit the Classic Challenge competition page on HWBOT.org here

All GIGABYTE Classic Contest prizes feature the latest GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 5 technology which includes high current capable components for the CPU power zone including IR3550 PowIRstage ICs from International Rectifier, 2X Copper PCB and high current Ferrite Core Chokes rated up to 60A, which together are able to deliver up to 60°C* cooler temperatures than traditional motherboards.

Featured on a range of new motherboards based the Intel X79 and Z77 Express Chipsets, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 5 technology is the next evolution in quality motherboard design.

Stage 2 seems fair but stage one seems like whoever has the most money will win sort of thing. also having to use only a gigabyte Z77 board chops out a lot of people from the contest

Though you require money to have the best CPU and GPU but otherwise money would not get you anywhere even in Stage 1. 3DM01 is a benchmark which gives the best result with only 1 GPU. Both the benchmarks are such that only the best tweakers would win. Though for 3DM01 you would also need LN2.

Guess it would be X2 type GPUs cause Z77s don't do more than 2 slot 8x8. Unless Giga uses one of those NF200 setups on one of their Z77s?

A single 580/7970 is enough.......Though even a Single 4870x2 might not be a bad idea I guess.

Yea, I'm pretty tired of these contests that only the people with insane cash can win.. How about you throw a bone to the average consumer once in while hardware makers?
All of you are seeming like you just want to cater to eliteists.

Yay, Kingpin won again.. /yawn...
We all know Kingpin can always win and always get all the prizes.. Does he need them or can he not afford them? NO.. How about looking out for the little guy once in a while, you know the guys who buy your stuff and break the bank and keep you in business. There are a lot more of us average users than there are Kingpins..
