OUYA Up For Pre-Order

Kickstarter prodigy OUYA, a $99 (for backers) gaming console based on the Android platform, driven by NVIDIA Tegra 3, is finally up for pre-order to non-backers. It starts with a console + single controller option at US $109 (US buyers), $119 (international buyers); $139 (US buyers) and $149 (international buyers) for console + two controllers; and $199 (US buyers), $209 (international buyers) for console + four controllers. You can do that now with a emulator and a computer/laptop near a tv and like a 3 dollar cable.

Uh, yes I know but that wasn't the point. I would have to buy a controller to reach 20ft to my comp.
Plus need it for media center. $120 is not bad for what it can do.

Just think Sony is just about ready to release it's $150 slim PS3.... I bet that would reach too your couch and actually have games to play on it. Don't get me wrong i like the idea, but I don't think 8.6 million dollars is going to be enough to ship, support, and replace it if the unit does not work upon receiving the console or breaks with in the warranty. I hope I'm wrong... :toast:

As awesome if these are I do wonder if they'll suffer the Tegra3 flickering and all the other problems that almost all other tegra3 based devices have been suffering from... or not.

I also hope the don't f*** it up as I would very much like to see a console competitor that embraces open source. I think this thing has great potential. :toast:

Does it have a sata port? If so id get one.
Other wise ill add it to the list of arm devices with out sata.

$8.6M was what they got from the Kickstater crowd funding, yes? They were orginally shooting for only $950,000 I believe, so they must have plans for continued revenue streams other than the console's cost to cover warranty and support.

I too hope it works out well. I don't have any real use for one, but I might just pick up a cheap version to hack around with it.
I'm not really crazy about coding for Android, though. The emulators were horribly slow when coding on a PC. But it's been awhile, so maybe they've gotten better.

Anyway, I wish them tons of success. :toast:

Aw no doubt buddy. I want this to succeed and I want one as well, but the biggest problem I see for this console is that it's not for the average console user. I bet over half the people who gave money for kickstarter doesn't even know what "su" or "root" even means.. Plus, by the time OUYA even comes out, "Wayne" (tegra 4) chip will be right around the corner. I don't know man.. I'm a linux guy and I want them too do well, but I don't want them to f@ck it up either.. You know? :toast:
