ECS is working on the X79R-AX Stealth, a high-end socket LGA2011 motherboard that borrows a design concept from ASUS TUF Sabertooth series, on which the jury is still out - a shroud covering most of the non-critical areas of the motherboard, which ASUS refers to as "Thermal Armor." The X79R-AX Stealth uses a similar shroud, except it isn't as perforated on the surface, and instead uses vents along its edges for ventilation and connections.

The shroud appears to borrow its design from some of the earliest 5th generation (stealth) fighter aircraft, such as the F-117 Nighthawk. Only key components such as the CPU socket, expansion/memory slots, and power connectors protrude from cutouts in the shroud, most other connections such as on-board headers appear to be arranged perpendicularly, and open out along the edges of the board. Most other features of the board appear to be consistent with that of the X79R-AX Black Series. According to ECS, the board should be out very soon.

Many Thanks to NHKS for the tip.

The render looks ugly, lets see real pics for proper evaluation.

Sweet zombie TheJesus does that look like something that needs to burn.

In all fairness ECS has come out with some decent boards lately- esp the black series line and, one of my personal favorites (albeit strictly based on looks :o)- the z77 Golden Edition.

It's an ECS so the chances are good.

from where they have the idea? its pretty bad.
the pic is pretty bad
bad bad bad

im curious about the material of this cover ,if is like the thermal armor i think is good

To hide all the low quality components? Preventing messy situations due to exploding caps? Great idea!

dust magnet, issue is if it is metal cover at that it can cause grounding issues too.

F-117, meh, its history like the B-1A, C-141, F-14

btw ive had better luck with an ECS board over an Asus board in reliability

Looks pretty good but why no 90degree angled eps and atx connectors?

cough "rip off" cough

Sounds like we need Cadaveca to get one from ECS and review it to tell us what the real deal is. You know he will rip off that "armor" and find out what makes this puppy tick. :p

Otherwise it looks hideous. In fact it almost looks photo-shopped to me, how about an angled picture instead of one right above it?

ECS stealth saberooth

Huh, all it is... is this with covers.
And, I, myself, would prefer no covers.

file.php

And, how about access to the headers?

yep, its edited and they do that bad. first i questioned myself: is that really from ECS or just like rumor. I believe ECS wouldnt do that. they may do something like "thermal armor" but not like that :D
this design is horrible

Air circulation over motherboard components is for wusses!

If that cover is metal then it mist weight atleast 2 pounds unless its aluminum. I would prefer no cover and better heatsinks were they are needed.

this is a modders dream come true........oh the gears are turning in my head.......

you guys are short sighted,,, i see potential....
