Sony Leaving PC Optical Drive Business

I have 2 LG DVD burners in my PC, bought in 2005... I use them a lot.

I can assure you there are still a lot of people using Optical drives.

Watching Movies, playing bought music.. yes some people actually buy CD's instead of downloading it, making DVD backups of important files, installing games, yes some people actually go to a shop and buy games instead of downloading it.

Sony leaving the optical drive market means.. oh well.. no more sony optical drives..

Optical is dead. Granted I have a USB optical drive just in case, just as I had a spare floppy drive just in case at one point.

Sony drives were crap for the most part anyway. Much like LiteOn.

I guess it depends on luck.
My Lite-On PATA drive is still going strong although it is by far the loudest drive ever.

My Pioneer blu ray burner is pretty awesome.

I ain't gonna shed one tear over this. Never been a fan of Sony. I never bought any of there stuff other then maybe a walkman back in the olden days lol.

I haven't used PATA in years. I know of some that still may be working, and I will have to check what the last known 52X CD drive's brand is.

I had a sony drive and it was louder than a stock CPU cooler on full blast. Good riddance. I'm probably one of the few who still frequently use the optical drive being a music collector so it is a bit worrying seeing people leaving the industry. There are much better drives out there. It gives me more freedom with gaming too, when I'm a year or two late to a game I can usually just get the disc for $2-5 off amazon though I buy most of my games on STEAM. ;)

Yes because all US companies are the same. Just like all Asian men have small peckers........oh wait that's a stereotype? Naaaaaa

The population is max in asia. They sure know how to use them eh:roll:

Faar, far from it. I prefer buying music CDs instead of crappy compressed .mp3. Also Bluray movies are getting cheaper and wider spread. And how about installing the OS? As far as I know all new OSes are coming on DVDs. Don't forget about the backup also...

as far as respect for employee's go, you obviously havent heard of how foxconn and apple treat their factory staff.

Yeah, Japan, China, same $hit. Asians right? :banghead::banghead::shadedshu

I still like Optical

Huh, you guys have odd results with these...

Since I stopped selling Liteon and Samsung and moved to Optiarc drives, I have had so few failures it has made a measurable impact on my stores profits. But I still love them, because they never fail for me and they are some of the best burners available.

I actually don't know what I will use... But it better have an NEC chipset.

hey Sony - don't let the door hit you where the knifehand split ya! ------------>

Good riddance. :rockout:
