So, why don't they stick a quality fan in the PSU's in the first palce and no one would even care between fan and fanless modes if it's already so silent you can't even hear it...
Exactly, my HX850 is pretty darn quiet already. I believe Corsair uses pretty decent fans already, and their PSUs are generally next to silent under idle loads.
lso, something which no one is considering, is that mechanical devices tend to seize up if standing still for a long time. Therefore, one can imagine the scenario where the fan doesn't come on for a whole year.
If Corsair sets it up like most other PSUs that shut the fan off the fan will still spin up for at least a second every time the computer is powered on.
