I love how you justify the price.

The price IS competitive, there's no way around that. if you're looking at that kind of monitor in that form factor (AIO). If you're looking at traditional desktops then yeah sure they're expensive, but for what they are they are not.

You can't seriously compare tablets with PC's (including Macs there). ARM is racing forward WAY WAY faster than traditional chipts, for good reason.

I can make such a comparison to point out the obvious. Ivy Bridge was available since ~March or ~April (OEMs likely get earlier access) and the iMac hasn’t yet been updated. The Mac Pro hasn’t been updated in a significant way in I don’t remember how long. The Mac Pro will presumably be updated in mid to late 2013 and probably still wont have Thunderbolt support if its based on Ivy Bridge-E.

All I am saying is its obvious that mobile devices are given precedence by Apple. That’s probably where they see or expect the money to be. I’m not judging, I’m just saying,….

The displays are made by another company (LG for example). Thunderbolt was made by Intel (when I was reading about LightPeak early on there was no mention of Apple so I question their contribution in this respect). Apple computers run on Intel processors. Apple iOS devices ultimately run on ARM processors regardless of the fact Apple designed them (or own some ARM stock). I don’t see anything special about Apple save for their OSes and their inane obsession with thinness.

Other manufacturers such as Dell, HP and so on would have had Ivy Bridge processors in their All-In-One and desktop systems 7 or so months ago. The display resolution of the 27” iMac is unchanged so I don’t see the point in getting excited by it unless you have a fixation with 2560x1440. Apple has been pushing “Retina” (marketing / pixel density) displays across its lineup so if anything it too is eventually due for an upgrade.

Apple is pushing what technology is out there but at a price and that doesn’t look like its going to change. The Retina displays (Mac Book Pro Retina) are pushing the video subsystem to their limits and the performances can show this.

That used to be true, but look at Dell and HP now and both have All-In-One form factors that are either slightly less powerful than the Apples for significantly less money, or very similar in power to the Apples for the same or slightly less money. And both have been offering the 3rd Generation Core processors for months, Apple is the one that is behind in that respect.

let's see a pc manufacturer push those specs in a case like that anytime soon...

HP's All-In-On with the 2.7GHz i5 starts at $600, but that is with integrated graphics, their All-In-One with a 2.8GHz i7 and a 1GB dedicated HD7450 is $1050, both with 23" screens.

I wouldn't be bragging about Apple build quality as of late. Im on my THIRD iMac from mobo, monitor and HD issues in the past two years. You know I'm no Apple hater either. Apples aint what they used to be IMO.

HP Z1. Good build, UPGRADEABLE, you can use Xeons, ECC RAM, Workstation cards etc.

If you need a computer only for internet:
- Buy a separate monitor (quality monitor ~$600)
- ITX board with some APU, since it's so small you can put it behind your monitor

With the iMac you basically pay >$500 just to save some space and that's about it. It does not give you the performance for any serious work and at the same time it costs way too much to use it for casual browsing.
Of course if you have lots of money and don't mind spending it, buy anything you want. But no one can deny the fact that paying that much justifies a 2mm thinner AiO, that takes 10cm of space less.

lol? Ever tried to repair them? They are glued together. On the outside they might be pretty, i guess. If you are looking to put yourself on the side of the casuals you have done an excellent job.

you do not know that the vast majority of people do not play games on their computer? you do realize there is a large segment of the population that have money and enjoy spending it on neat designs and useful hardware. why is this bad? apple leads the way as sales figures show without a single doubt that the trend is to consumers wanting better build quality and sleeker design than processing power.

Most pc manufacturers can't pay to be so anti-green. I won't say people buying PCs would be in the market for this format of machine. Seems like we're comparing apples and oranges

Like I said design is very subjective and I bet that if another company made something that looked better (it's hard to define what looks better since it's subjective but still) I doubt everyone would leave Apple just for that design.

My personal opinion is that it's just brand loyalty or being brainwashed (I'm not talking about everyone here, I'm sure there are people who have very good reasons for buying it which I think are far from the design reason).
It's just a high price to pay for an aluminium shell.

But this is just my view on this, I respect other opinions and decisions

Much wider and bulkier? The only reason the 23" version is wider is because it has a bigger screen than the 21" iMac, an even still it is only 2 inches wider, and it is only 1 inch deeper.
