2013 Could be a Difficult Year for the PC Industry: Analyst

The relevence of PCs always comes into question when there is new technology that trends popular.
While tablets and mobile device sales are going through the roof, the PC will remain the stoic member of many households for a long, long time. People and analysts can pontificate on the demise of PCs all they want, but there is still a huge demand for them, even if that has slowed in the marketplace.
There are still a lot of people who want a keyboard, mouse, a nice monitor and the versatility that a PC gives them that other devices cannot.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not so sure actually. Most people I know (yes anecdotal evidence! :D) pretty much hate desktops but use them because they either can't afford a replacement or is to lazy to learn something new. AIO's is a good way forward, but most people have no reason to buy a new traditional desktop, unless they are really REALLY strapped for cash. In which case used laptops will do the job as good.

Why work when the Pres thinks the U.S. should be a socialist state and those unwilling to work can sit on their arse and get paid handsomely for it?

EDIT: And if you use the word "reality" I will smack you in the head.

IME, most (not all), people with computers outside of their work place, use them for entertainment just as they do cellphones. With portables they can take their entertainment with them to restaurants, doctors offices, stores, etc. where they can absue other people with their inconsiderate electronic toy behavior. Thus PC sales will diminish some but Biz will always need PCs and when the economy finally recovers, so will PC sales.

Denial is an illness that requires professional help. By definition it's the inability to deal with the word that you don't like. ;)

I don't think he realized he double posted, and probably thought that what you meant by 'double posting' was posting the same information again in a different post.

I have been promoted to Maj. Obvious.

We can welcome you into the ranks properly with a good ole rank punch and a firm hand shake.

I didn't double post. If you're seeing a double post it is a server issue, not me double posting.

They say the same old shit every year. But truth is different. Millions (literally) of people still need PCs for work and for home, not for 24/7 web-browsing.

Yes, the crowds of braindeads who play cod, battlefield, farmville or just checking their facebook accounts all day long are getting bigger and bigger and heyday of pc is not like it was before but I doubt that any programmer or other people who use their PCs for something useful are gonna chuck their PCs in 2013 and play temple run. Are they?!

please, half the population would rather sit around and collect a government check then go out and work manual labor where they are paying $20-30 hour.

I work manual labor for $11.23 an hour...

Mini-itx is where the market will grow, it wont die, just morph into smaller form factor, as it should.

Industry trend reports and sales disagree with you.

In the U.S.those who work pay for those who refuse to work.

Hahaha that's not limited to the U.S. at all

You just need to create a larger divide between paid unemployment and minimum salary.

You can say that openly in Norway. If you say that in the U.S. you are labeled a racist. Doesn't matter if its true or not. If you want to see people working instead of living off the tit of the tax payer you are a racist.

Its gotten so bad the word "racist" has lost all value here in the states. Normally what happens is when you are kicking someones butt in a debate they call you a racist as there is no way to deny it and label takes any value out of your side of the debate. Its the best way to tell you are winning a debate. lol

How on earth is that related to racism?

You got me! Its a stereotype that people who live on government assistance are minorities. If you are against government assistance you must be a racist. Never mind the FACT most people on government assistance are lower class whites.

Its the same argument made every single time anyone makes an attempt at fiscal responsibility (Dem or Repub.) They called Ron Paul an "extremist" and a "racist" because he offered a solution to government spending that has a proven record of working.

Its just how polarized America has become. The US is split right down the middle with "right vs. left" and we all bicker and fight all the time the people in power (Dems and Repubs.) rape us of our money and liberties. If you speak up you are a racist or unpatriotic.

Hell they even lifted a law that was established after WW2 saying the government couldn't establish a propaganda channel via the radio or TV. So now we will soon have our very own US propaganda channels. Isn't freedom awesome?

Haha yeah, it's always amused me how americans are so fond of their democracy then stick to only two political parties

For comparison here in Norway we have 7 political parties with seats in parliament and 16 more registered political parties that can all be voted for. The current functioning government consists of a coalition of 3 parties, elected by 47% of voters. The leading Labour Party won the election with 35.4% (making their leader prime minister), the runner up Progress Party had 22.9% and the third winner Conservative Party won with 17.2% of voters.

One of the fun arguments against this clear racism is that 53% of voters didn't vote for our current government, right? Right? Right?

It's because the public perception is that a disproportionate percentage of non-caucasians recieve government assistance. Not defending it, I think the people perpetuating this crap are more racist than those they accuse 99% of the time.

Ron Paul had a lot of great ideas, but also a lot of terrible ones. I loved his stance of foreign policy, but his financial policy was questionable at best. The branding of him as a racist was actually because he said he thought the Civil Rights Act was unconstitutional because you shouldn't be able to tell private business owners they must serve blacks. Which is... pretty racist lol.

That's actually how it was through the Reagan administration, but after that there spawned the Extreme Right (Tea Party for the most party), the Right, and the Left. Over time, to get votes, the Left had to move more towards the center. So we're basically stuck with Centerists (Obama), the Right (Romney), and the Far Right (people like Grover Norquist and Michelle Bachmann). Hell, by todays stances, even Nixon would be considered a bleeding liberal. American politics are absolute nonsense these days.

As for "rape"ing us of money, taxes are not akin to stealing money, and wherever that idea came from is beyond me. I firmly believe we should have a safety net\bottom line in this country, but NOT that we should incentivize people to sit around. I think someone hit it on the head when they said we need to broaden the gap between unemployment and what entry level workers make, but do it by getting pay up for low and middle class individuals. As it is, CEO pay has sky rocketed and the pay of lower and middle income workers has stagnated, and given inflation over the past decade actually dropped.

Hell they even lifted a law that was established after WW2 saying the government couldn't establish a propaganda channel via the radio or TV. So now we will soon have our very own US propaganda channels. Isn't freedom awesome?

Do you have a source for that one? I haven't heard anything like that. I would be interested in researching the actual policy changes, because that doesn't sound accurate at all. But seriously, do we not already have "Propaganda" channels? Most of our 24 hour news networks take care of that for us.

As for the death of the PC, it will never happen. There will always be a market for them, since they do offer the highest levels of performance. I don't expect consumer PC's to be offered in massive quantities forever, but I expect there will always be a market for Desktop PC's for workstations and enthusiasts.

I can see it slowing this yr but not by much. Console gaming is slowing down and people are starting to move to PC here in Australia. Also people here in Australia are starting to realise that Console games a very very expensive compared to the PC. In the long run its cheaper to buy a PC then a console for gaming and a PC can do alot more then what a console can do anyway.

Console games cost from $50 - $120 where on PC (steam) range from your crazy $2.50 sale to at most $99

So yes maybe this yr might be a bit slower but soon it will pick back up again when the new consoles don't bring anything new to the table.

Electronics here in Australia are very cheap at the moment, almost as cheap as the USA and with higher wages people are buying alot. Also getting a job here isnt that easy either but its not realy a problem as the government basically pushes you on the dole for a good 1.5yrs before they start getting the shits and start to help you find a job, Silly system.

Also yes people are buying alot more Tablets/netbooks etc but you be surprised that alot of people use these tools for awhile and then go oh i cant do this i need a PC? or i cant do that i need a PC, in the end they revert back to a PC or at least a 15.6" laptop that can do all those basic nneds but also can do those other needs that Tablets just cant do.
