New NVIDIA GeForce 700M GPUs Squeeze Every Drop Of Performance Out Of Notebooks

NVIDIA today announced five new notebook GPUs which deliver a trifecta of technologies that seamlessly and automatically maximize a consumer's notebook performance and experience.
With no effort or input from the notebook user, the technologies work in the background to save battery life, enhance performance and enrich the visual experience -- providing the best notebook experience the GPU can deliver.



Features include:

• New NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0 technology, which intelligently adjusts GPU clock speed to maximize graphics performance.
• NVIDIA Optimus technology, which enables extra-long battery life by switching the GPU on and off so it runs only when needed.
• GeForce Experience software, which adjusts in-game settings for the best performance and visual quality specific to a user's notebook and keeps GeForce drivers up to date.

"There is an elegant simplicity to NVIDIA's GeForce 700M notebook technologies," said Rene Haas, vice president and general manager of the notebook business unit at NVIDIA. "You use your notebook how you want, and GeForce makes your experience awesome."

Incorporating all three of these technologies, the new lineup of NVIDIA GeForce 700M GPUs includes GeForce GT 750M, GeForce GT 745M, and GeForce GT 740M GPUs for the performance segment, as a well as GeForce GT 735M and GeForce GT 720M GPUs for the mainstream segment.

How do you think Apple felt when they were founded on April 1st?

I don't tend to trust the article because the information provided is vague.

We also know that the industry usually isn't so quiet when mentioning anything before it's released. I doubt the first time we hear about it will be the day it is getting released.

If this is real though, I doubt it's based on Maxwell. Maybe a re-brand with some new driver magic?

Woow, you compared a card with a not-released one (spare me the "card" term for IGP).

My question is : what's point adding a card to notebook when IGP is doing the same or at least 10% less ?

A HD4000 play on same ground as 630M.
640M is not used by manufacturer's, and they prefer 650M which is twice the performance of a 630M.

So, why going under 650M ? (720M and 730M, and why not 735M).

Because benches don't tell you everything. Many are controlled time demos which can either be good or bad depending on how taxing they are. You can have a game scoring playable 30fps in a bench and then in gameplay be sub 10 quite often.

If you look at those benches, the GPU intensive titles have to be put into low settings just to run. Thats not good and it is even worse because the HD has to share VRAM. They will not be playable even if they bench playable. They'll also be butt ugly. So there is a very strong point for going with a discrete GPU over IGP. Specially when you consider their design and drivers are more mature than Intel's. But if you are comparing performance at this level for gaming, you probably shouldn't be. You should be looking towards higher models which can handle better fps.

I don't think we'll see IGPs get really viable until the shared VRAM situation is solved. If you notice on the PS4 they are using GDDR5 for RAM/VRAM. The limitation is removed and you finally have a IGP at discrete performance.

Actually is really annoying. Jokes should be kept on being funny, not getting into serious business like IT or news, when some people which are not familiar with this stupid day are taking them for granted.

That is not a joke but still happened on the 1st. Not to say that is the case here, but serious things can happen. Maybe this is real, but it seems too soon with no other notice.

I doubt the Nvidia announcement is a joke. A quick look at the Nvidia Newsroom tends to support the legitimacy.
April Fools jokes aren't generally the province of hardware vendors.
