I really don't understand why you are all so happy with Palit.

I'm not sure about the present, but in not so distant past a friend of mine replaced three Palit cards, because they all had blown up (I don't know the true reason of failures -the GPUs just needed to be replaced, as repair was deemed unfeasible). Nah, he didn't try to OC them, 'cause he doesn't know how to do that.

Would it also be fair to ask why so many people are happy with Asus when I read this?

One reason I'm happy with this news is competition. MSI, Gigabyte, and TUL aren't even in the top three. This kind of news might just make these companies offer cards at a lower price or offer other cheaper alternatives to their more expensive models just to sell more and have the bragging rights to say they are number 1.

Store RMA or Palit RMA? If he rma'd through Palit directly it only makes them look better if it went smooth.

Store RMA. In my country (hint: the largest country in the world) it's impossible and impractical to use vendor RMA.

Nah I think Russia. It's either that, China or Luxembourg (or Monaco or something, depends on how you count).

Anyway in that case it could have been something else. Faulty PSU or something, it doesn't really signify anything.

You guessed right.

Anyways, his PSU, motherboard and the rest of the computer are just fine and a Gigabyte GPU he bought as a replacement has been churning happily for the past two years without any signs of imminent death.

Maybe it was bad luck, who knows

Palit user here since GeForce 6600 GT. Palit brand is the cheapest in our area as well, slightly cheaper than Inno3D. ASUS, MSI and even EVGA are way more expensive.
Now using GTX 660 OC.
One thing about Palit is they mostly use their custom PCB with their cards from day 1 (provided that nvidia gave em approval), mostly seen on the midrange cards and below.

Oh and yeah, their cards are noisy even back then, even with their newer custom cooling ones.

Seems to me Gigabyte and Sapphire have been producing better products for the last few years and that is starting to catch up to an overpriced ASUS product line...I don't know about Palit since I haven't bought any GeForce products but they always seem to be flimsy cheesy Bottom barrel Chinese Garbage...Guess that says tons about ASUS LOL

While I agree with what you’re saying, when the discerning buyer looking for Quality builds, components, top notch coolers, and usually high ASIC quality chip… Asus delivers.

From what I see Gainwood has some "Top-Shelf" builds but most often is supplying what feels more like reference stuff lurking under the shrouds at least looking at currant 600 series. For Zotac (Palit is not any big name here in the States)they can offer interesting looking builds, but really more about marketing and branding than substance for most items sold here. I've notice Zotac customer review (E-tailers) having above average of negatives on various model, while Zotac has placed a big push in contributing cards to review sites.

When it comes to Asus their almost exclusively "Enthusiast" level cards (even for middle ground markets) they offer a more commanding product and for that price. Then on top of things mentioned at the start for their cards, from what I've known work well with customers, and provide a fair/even-hand 3 year warranty to Zotac with 2-Y.

Sometime if you know... it's a case of "you pay for what you get"
