760 is near identical in performance at $250 ($60 cheaper),

The $250 GTX 760 is not an OC model. Without OC'ing, the stock non-GHZ model 7970 gets more FPS than the non OC'ed GTX 760. And if we are going to bring OCíng into the mix, lets see a GTX 760 match this-

I just read up on TPU reference model reviews, and the 760 is on te 7970's heels all the way. I did specifically say THE 7970 OVERCLOCKS BETTER IN THE BIGGER PICTURE, if you would kindly read up.

obviously the 7970 could then overclock and in turn get better framerates. In terms of stock performance, 7970 is better.

550w Bronze as a minimum. A lot of OC'ers go for 650w for single CPU and single GPU systems, 850w for dual GPU etc.

never said you didn't say that. I just wanted to show the OP exactly what kind of OCíng potential the 7970 has. I have one of the original reference HD7970 that run stock at 925/1375, but is capable of running 1150/1400. That is a 250 MHz OC on stock voltage. Most 7970 cards are capable of that OC.

I think the OP stated he wont be overclocking, so I am not sure he would even know how to oc the gpu either, just saying.

Yeah, they did say that. But do you honestly think they will feel the same after having the computer for 6 months to a year? Most of us here know exactly how easy it is to OC the video card, the OP will figure that out.

Yeah, what brand? Brands are important. Some are avoidable.

OC's that stay within the temperature and power limits of the hardware do not cause damage to the hardware. It's only extreme OC's that hurt hardware. I had a 3 GHZ Q9650 before my 2600k that I ran at 4.25ghz 24/7. That CPU is still in use today by another member of TPU. Personally, I've been OC my hardware ever since I bought my E8400 Core2Duo/9800GX2 system back in 2009, and have only killed one piece of hardware. That was a $100 Z68 Gigabyte motherboard that only had a 4-phase power system. Seems a 4.5ghz OC on my 2600k was too much for the 4-phase power system of that board(I exceeded the boards power limits).

might be worth buying the PSU by it's self today if you can afford it.

no experience with Watchdogs, but I get around 45fps with all setting at high running a resolution of 2560*1600 playing Crysis3 if that tells you anything about what a single non-GHZ non-OC'ed 7970 can do

2600k. Check my system specs for the Bard's Domain computer for it's full specs. The 7970 is not OC'ed right now and the 2600k is running at only 3.8ghz.

Good luck with your build. I have to leave for work now. I'll check back on this thread when I get home.
