My first gaming build

why a 750w :o

PSU's are most efficient on 40-70% load, below and above that the efficiency drops. He's got a 750w so he has better efficiency at full load. I run two GPU's and a fully overclocked system plus watercooling, so a 850w would fit my system requirements, but gold rated 1050w gives better efficiency at my system's full load.

hmm well i dunno im going to be rechecking everything once i go to buy it if i can find anything similer with lower pricing and stuff like that
 
alright cool i have one last question that i can think of seeing as its 8:30 am where i am and i havent slept lol my case that im going to get eventually will have 5 fans how do i know ill have enough connectors ? i know you can chain connect them to a connector from the psu but do some psu's have less connectors than others ?
 
Don't worry about that. Your motherboard will have several connectors for fans; and the PSU will have enough connectors if you decide to do em that way. You can even get fan splitters for like 4 fans that plug into a regular 4 pin molex from the PSU

What CPU will you need to keep up? an AMD A8 is more than capable of handling 7970.
4670 non K will be way more than enough,

If i may ask how does someone know their cpu can handle their gpu, how do you know that a i5 4670 will not bottleneck the 7970?

On Topic. Most processors will handle a single GPU at 1080. Something as lowly as an AMD A8 can handle a 7970 at 1440p, so thats your lowest basline. The article that graph was from details what processors are required for certain GPU loads. The link is:

Metro 2033 has always been my baseline for testing a systems capabilities and drawbacks.

Basically most processors will handle top end GPU's at high end resolutions when it comes to single GPU's. Choosing a processor only really matters when it comes to Multiple GPU's (2 or more) or in CPU intensive games, mostly RTS's like Starcraft II, Civ 5, Supreme Commander etc, and obviously multithreaded workloads and CPU intensive workloads, such as WinRAR and Autocad, but these dont matter when it comes to GPU workload.

Not exactly RCoon. I have a 750 watt PSU because my last GPU set-up was 5870 crossfire. My 7970 is newer than my PSU, but not by much. I replaced the PC Power and Cooling PSU that's now in my Barb's Cruncher system with the XFX 750 when I fried the motherboard I referred to earlier. The symptom pointed to either a PSU problem or MB problem, and the PSU at the time was like 5 years old, so that's what I thought was the problem. Turned out to be the motherboard after all and I was sitting there with two PSUs. That's also why there is a 860 watt PSU in that system. It's what I had on hand when I built that system.

hmm well thanks for explaining anyway but um i actually have two questions how big of a difference is the i7 2600k from the i5 4670 ? and i noticed on the SAPPHIRE 100351SR Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit GDDR5... that the actual price is like 420 but its marked off and the buyer gets -90 instant, my question is how long does that last and if it doesnt last long enough for me to buy it would it be better for me to just get a 760 for 250 if i cant find a 7970 for around 300?
 
That one's already around 300. It's $329 and a $20 rebate. Not bad at all for a 7970

In gaming, the 4670 is actually faster MHz for MHz. For example, if I was to disable HT on my 2600k, the 4670 at around 3.5ghz would be about equal to my 2600k at 3.9-4ghz in ALL situations. The 4 core non-HT Haswell chips are about 20% faster than the 4 core non-HT Sandy Bridge chips when comparing core to core at the same clock speeds. Same with the Haswell HT chips being about 20% faster than the Sandy Bridge HT chips. Haswell 10% faster than Ivy Bridge which is about 10% faster than Sandy Bridge.

That Sapphire card's price I believe is not going to go back up.
 
not sure if anyone will reply to this since its been a few days but i was wonder whats the maximum amount of ram i should ever go some people say 4 is enough some say 8 is fine others say 16 is the right amount sooo yeah lol, seems like you guys here have helped me alot before

I run 8. I have seen times that 4 would not be enough, but I have yet to see 8 not being enough
 
Yeah that's a great cooler, especially so as you're not OC'ing the CPU. I run my server on that cooler, and that will put out more heat than a 4670

great cooler for the $. There are better for haswell
 
Yeah 8gb is perfect. 4gb is doable but 8 is best. I often get close to or exceed 4gb, just gaming and browsing. But I usually do have at least 2 games and 20+ tabs and sometimes 2 browsers up...sad thing is I'm terrible at multitasking lol
