Amped Wireless, the leading manufacturer of award-winning high power, long-range wireless communication products for the home and office, announced today the launch of the ACA1 High Power 500mW Dual Band AC Wi-Fi USB Adapter. The ACA1 is the first long range 802.11ac adapter on the market that is compatible with Mac laptops and desktops, in addition to Windows computers. The ACA1 works with all Wi-Fi networks and has been optimized for use with the recently launched Amped Wireless RTA15 High Power 700mW Dual Band AC Wi-Fi Router.

The ACA1 is the only 802.11ac adapter available with high gain dual band antennas and amplifiers to maximize performance. The ACA1 features two high gain dual band antennas and four total amplifiers for up to 500mW of power. In contrast, standard Wi-Fi adapters provide up to 100mW of power and are not capable of providing extended range. The ACA1 provides up to three times the range of standard Wi-Fi adapters and is backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n networks. It connects using USB 3.0 for the fastest possible transfer speeds.

"Operating in the 5 GHz band, 802.11ac devices suffer from the poor range inherent with the 5 GHz band," said Amped Wireless CEO, Jason Owen. "With the ACA1, users can extend their 802.11ac connections to download HD videos and transfer data files throughout their homes, backyards and offices. The ACA1 allows Mac and Windows users to freely use their computers and enjoy the full benefits that come with 802.11ac speeds."

All Amped Wireless products include Wi-Fi Analytic Tool Apps that provide advanced software application for Android and Windows devices in order to assist in analyzing and optimizing Wi-Fi networks for maximum speed and coverage. All Amped Wireless products are also backed by industry leading, U.S.-based, in-house technical support provided by Amped Concierges.

The ACA1 has a retail price of $89.99. It is available for pre-order from the Amped Wireless store today and ships July 22nd. It will be available at major brick & mortar retailers and online retailers in late-July.

This question seems to get asked more than its necessary, so please let me help.

For 802.11 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi the FCC regulates the maximum Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) is no more than 36 dBm. Meaning, the power transmitted cannot exceed 1 Watt using a 6 dBi antenna.

Typical WiFi routers are 100-200 mW or 0.1 to 0.2 of a Watt with typically an effective 3dBi antenna(maybe effective 6 dBi).

This new router uses 0.5W transmitting power with what looks to be an effective 6dBi antenna.

A key point to remember is WiFi is Non-Ionizing Radio Frequency Engergy. Typical X-Rays and gamma radiation are Ionizing Radiation, stay away from these for prolonged, high powered, exposure. WiFi, radio, and even sun light are non-ionizing radiation. Meaning you can sustain prolonged, low powered exposure with no physical concern.

Granted, you dont want to put your balls in a microwave and set it on high for 5 minutes. But then again, typical microwave ovens have power output on the order of 1000 Watts and are focused frequency spectrum. High power in a tight spectrum can be dangerous; low power across a broad spectrum is just fine.

Just for fun, you receive more Cosmic Radiation(nasty stuff) from simply flying.
Flying takes passengers and crew to higher elevations where their exposure to cosmic radiation is increased. The exposure increases with frequency of flying and the accumulated.

Side note, Full Body Scanners use similar Radio Frequency energy to see through your clothes. They use low power, non-ionizing X-Rays which are not harmful. Heres a good read if you have time:

FCC \ FDA regulate and say a lot of shit and because THEY say so don't mean it's true.

Just make sure and don't be putting it under your chair or next to your head as you might possibly be a special case and go bold in either place hahaha.

Ha ha!!! Those that complain about it have penetration issues.
