Desire to build a new system

So, as I sit here fiddlying with this entirely too old Pc, I have a strong desire to build a new PC. I'm trying to keep things as cheap as possible. Possibly scrapping some old parts and buying used ones. What has started this is i'm trying to play some gamecube emulators (hope this is cool, if not just delete this post) and they are running entirely too slow. So instead of buying a Wii and games or something of that nature, i've decided to just build a PC with decent gaming capabilities. Can anyone recommend a ''layout'' for this nature of use? Nothing specific, just simple. I'm guessing Dual Core, At least 2gb ram, and nothing lower than say a 8800. I figured I would ask the community for their opinion.

EDIT: After looking through the gamecube games, this is a must. Didn't realize how much I loved these games and how much I miss them. I really don't want to buy a gamecube in this era. :/

Huh, this is 2013, not 2008. You want a quad-core, at least 4gb RAM (8 is recommended now), and the 8800 video cards are out-performed by just about ANY video card made today. What is your actual budget?

I can't give any actual number at the moment. But im defintley trying to keep it to a minimum. I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do what I want. I could possibly run into a good deal on some 2008 hardware. If a quad core, 8gb ram, and some super video card is what I need then so be it, but i'm assuming I don't need all that power. Just trying to make something to run something besides browser based online games. Maybe you should reread my post. Thanks for the response.

A top-end video card certainly is unnecessary. You would be greatly limiting yourself with only 2GB RAM in particular, however. Depending on your budget, an AMD FX4xxx or an Intel Core i3 3xxx would both be very solid choices. An AMD APU would also work well--I'm not entirely familiar with what the best ones are, but the Richland ones are well received (and have an entirely competent built-in GPU).

Yeah, you don't need a high-end system for Wii games, but spending money on the parts you mentioned as a example would be a waste on money IMHO. Here is a build that will do what your asking. You can probably skip the video card and use the on-board graphics.

I'm not sure of the logic of the APU and then a HD7770--IIRC they don't support hybrid CFX, so it would make more sense to go with an AM3+ CPU in that case...

Like I said, the OP can probably skip the video card and just use the onboard. If that isn't good enough, he/she can add the 7770 at a later date

Get an AMD APu with and FM2. should be more than enough if your original mentality was getting some old ass hardware.

Fair enough. Without the GPU, I think it would do very well for him--the onboard is still much better than any 8800 card
