The fact that this USD $2000 kit, with performance matched by DDR3-2133/2250 kits, receives the editor's choice award makes me physically sick to my stomach. I am not kidding, I genuinly feel nauseous. It's basically the same feeling when I seeing a bloody hot girl light up a cigarette.

I have always like TPU for their enthusiast-minded reviews, but this has me turned off completely.

Sad.

Oh come on Pieter, yeah 9.6 is too high indeed but I didnt expect anything different than this performance as it is still an MFR kit. MFR kits suck badly (single sided) against most dual sided kits.
MFR are expensive (as ICs) and also you pay the hand-picked chips in order to do frequency scores.

BWAHAHAHA AVEXIR Core Series 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) Dual Channel ...

Two thousand dollars for a kit of memory isn't justifiable in anyone's books. Even for allegedly hand-picked ICs.

And why bother reviewing a high-end kit if you aren't able/willing to clock the s**t out of it? How can you justify giving it 9.6 without knowing what it's capable of? For all we know it can't even clock to 3.2GHz.

I don't have anything against Avexir but considering the sheer number of memory manufacturers, all with great products, trying to differentiate yourself by charging 5 times more than your competitors for a product that isn't worth that, seems like a really good way to go out of business fast.

Hahahaha wow... A 9.6 and editor'scchoice for two thousand dollar memory? The Corsair dominator platinum didn't even get that...

I've either been asleep for a few months and it's April 1st, or I am really missing something here. I understand that this is a unique custom product offering in a high end niche market, but wowzers... Are we just throwing up our hands and saying price doesn't matter if the mfr says so anymore?

It still doesn't even almost justify the rating. For the performance, these should be a ~6.5-7.0 max. The price should knock that down at least a full point to 5.5-6.0.

Single-sided MFR is junk... manufacturers switching to single-sided 4GB sticks is a cost-cutting move with performance at stake and they're getting away with it because of reviews like this. In what world can you charge $2K for a kit of memory that is inferior from the beginning? The one where the reviews ignore the metrics.

Of course, didnt try to say something different, the price of most mfr kits is high cause of the new trend which is high mem freq

I only skimmed through the article and focused on the performance charts.

Kinda confused, is the OC mode 3400, but the charts show 3100?

Agree with erocker... these would be good for someone with a significant disposable income :p

This actually pleases me for some reason....

Benching at 3400+ on air can kill chips. SO I pushed performance rather than raw speed, since reaching the stick's full MHz potential require extreme cooling on the CPU.

Just as an FYI, the CaseKing price was originally 2000 EUR. the $2k Newegg priced is clearly retailer gouging to me, so the price did not reflect in the final score. The kit below this one, the 3000 MHz kit, is only $679 @ Newegg.

Also, Massman and others...all numbers reported in this review use single-sided 4 GB sticks. Some kits have a performance advantage because the kit has 4 sticks.

Thanks for the review Dave, but i find it "lacking" to be quite honest. No offense meant

I say this because these CLEARLY are a NICHE product aimed at persons chasing absolute MAXIMUM RAM frequencies and, as such, will not be run in any conditions similar to what most readers here are accustomed to OR to how you reviewed them.

These stix, this review, should definately have included an LN2 section. That is, afterall, what these were intended for. ;)

Thanks again for all your hard work Dave :respect:

Read the review, do not look at the score. It's what I do, because all TPU scores are inflated. OR, you can see 70% as 0.5 stars and 100% as three stars.

Heh.

I agree 1000%. But, since my OC guide hasn't been posted yet(it's been done for a few weeks and should have gone first), my thoughts on high-speed ram with Haswell haven't really been posted in public yet. Everyone knows that 1600 MHz is fine, performance-wise, for most users.

IF you think I think that that spending $2k USD on memory is worth it for a normal user...well.. It's not. It's not like you can grab these sticks and use them in just any board... you cannot.

I think I covered everyone's problems with the first paragraph in the conclusion...:

Trying to evaluate this memory kit fairly while keeping in mind what consumers will think and how they will react is tough. On one hand, I completely understand why this memory kit exists, though most users will never use anything like it, at least not at its price point. Its cost poses the biggest problem: $2000 makes each single 4 GB stick worth a cool $1000. That alone means this kit is not for everyone.

So that's that.

So the OC difference is on the CPU? Mem stays constant at 3100 C12? Just curious.

Max OC numbers are with tweaked timings @ 3000 MHz...lower than stock MHz, even. Just to show that MHz doesn't equal performance, and that sometimes "stock" is far from optimal.

All the numbers in this review used single-sided sticks, including those 2133/2250 numbers those up above say appeal to them more. I can tune these Avexir sticks down to those 2250/2133 MHZ speeds, and get higher performance out of the Avexir sticks, which makes those comments about those 2133/2250 stick(the same sticks, actually) seem, well, odd to me. Obviously I am looking at different things here than some.

Ignoring that all the numbers in this review use similar sticks of differing quality changes my opinion of them too. :p

Yea, looking at the RipjawsX 2250 with C9 timings beat in a lot of tests confirms that timing is everything (well almost, lol)

Read the review, do not look at the score. It's what I do, because all TPU scores are inflated. OR, you can see 70% as 0.5 stars and 100% as three stars.

I did read the review, but I don't have a smile on my face.

From what I gather based on the response of others here and other forums, it looks like a lot of enthusiasts are very unhappy with the latest "media review coverage". This is not journalism. These are advertorials disguised as product reviews. Here is my main critique.

Given a price point of USD $2000, or perhaps more likely EUR €900,

- it is only 8 GB of memory
- performance at stock is well below DDR3-2133 kits, overclocked it is not faster across the board
- the praised overclocking potential has not been tested or verified
- the packaging is DDR3-1600 grade

The author uses games to benchmark the product. Obviously, the conclusion of this review should have been to buy a GTX Titan instead. Also, why is the editor's choice award not given to that DDR3-2133C9 kit? It's a fraction of the price and it can deliver nearly the same performance as this luxurious kit?!

We can not blame memory vendors for releasing this kind of over-priced, under-whelming performance kits. They have directors and managers in charge who decide whether it is economically smart to invest resources in hand-picking ICs for this type of memory. The main task of media and reviewers is to inform their readers, and make a correct analysis. For this price, gamers and overclockers can buy better hardware that will make them happier. Yes, even overclockers. I see some people justify this kit as being in demand for high speed records - well, that is not true. Only for memory frequency validations, single sided MFR memory is of any relevance. For performance benchmarking purposes, it is useless.

This is a press release in the form of a product review.

Congratulations(?).

Hasn't anyone ever seen a pic of someone binning RAM for clockspeed? I know i wouldn't want to sift through 100 trays to find 2 stix that will rock!

No need, I wipl do that :p

Great, well explained feedback. But to answer your questions, you kind of need to read all my reviews, not just pick and choose. You clearly don't understand my opinion, but that's fine.

I mean, after all, a couple of weeks ago, you were posting about how I test more than anyone, and how you have great respect for me. It's unfortunate your opinion has changed.

You do need to keep in mind that I test motherboards primarily, and this kit was reviewed purely as a tool for that. I did say that in the review, too, as in a lot of ways, you are very correct.

Let's just look at the words and ignore the ranking..
The numbers just cause too much hassle...
I remember when it was claimed that "this board sucks", and then that very same board got 8.2.
There was also a discord then...
Just look at the findings and the conclusion, not at the final number.

Why everybody complaining the price is so crazy expensive?
Obviously, the co. build this ram NOT FOR EVERYONE, they build it for some rich kid or for those who
grow money on the tree. Just like Ferrari, not for everyone. It 10 times expensive than my current car BUT not 10 times faster than my car!

Buy this for bragging right only or for whatever use since u have the money for it...
