The long expected MSI R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G are now available. Packed with all of the power and features to drive UltraHD gaming resolutions the MSI Twin Frozr IV Advanced now ensures your card runs cool so you can enjoy maximum performance because AMD's PowerTune technology enables the R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G to run at their highest clock speeds. With support for the latest industry standards and exciting new technology such as Mantle support in Battlefield 4.

Thanks to the bundled MSI GAMING App gamers can quickly switch between three pre-sets including a silent mode optimized for power efficiency and an overclocking and OC Mode to get the most power out of your graphics card, without worrying about learning how to overclock. The R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G have been designed to give you a gaming experience that delivers you true next-gen performance for ultra HD resolutions without sacrificing on thermals to kick-start your gaming rig for 2014.

Stay cool in combat
The MSI Twin Frozr IV Advanced has been completely customized for the R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G to deliver the best thermal experience. The design uses a larger copper base for heat absorption and the heat pipes are in contact with a bigger part of the heat sink and exposed to more airflow to ensure the highest performance of the GPU because of optimal temperatures. Combined with the dual form-in-one heat sinks that add both cooling ability and structural reinforcement the R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G stay cool and safe.

Optimized for Gamers
The new R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G are packed with features that benefit every gamer. AMD TrueAudio technology allows far more realistic positional audio and the added benefit of surround sound over connected displays. Mantle allows game developers to directly speak to the GPU optimizing GPU performance. This can all be displayed in a glorious UltraHD / 4K resolution as the new R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G is leading in performance at 4K resolutions. This can be easily connected through the DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connectors. Up to six dedicated displays can be connected to the R9 290 GAMING 4G and R9 290X GAMING 4G for an amazing Eyefinity experience.

Hell yeah, stop flaming on AMD, if there wasn't a brand named AMD for againts NVIDIA you would buying GTX 780 from 1000$, as happened with GTX Titan.

No, Nvidia would go bust if all they sold was $1000 cards. Titan is the same physical card (with a few driver based things missing) that they sell to their HPC clients for super computing tasks and it costs that market several thousand dollars apiece. That's why even now Titan costs so much. Nvidia cannot price it lower (in a sense to placate the people/businesses that bought the cards for $3-4k for computing).

Please remember that AMD priced the 7970 way above what people expected and that let Nvidia release the GK104 for roughly the same even though it was only meant to be a mid range card. AMD are not angels here children. The fact they released 7990's at £800 and then a few months later they were all about £400-500 shows the mark up.

Mantle is not yet out and as people say, True Audio isn't really there yet and few people are as interested in TA. Even reviewers found it a bit 'lame' as it's been done before in other formats. As for when Mantle does appear in games, then yes - it should be very good for AMD GCN card owners but we can't fly it's flag unless the games are coded for it and although we know some that do, some most definitely wont (ones Nvidia work with). So yes, Mantle good but without Intel and Nvidia signing up to it (in some form or other) it will be hamstrung from the start. There are some big AAA titles out next year and NV are involved in more than a few.

I also agree that we shouldn't flame AMD, what they are doing is good but who they fight against is the problem.

Bluh. ofcourse nowhere to be found on amazon or newegg.

their "where to buy" section is useless too.

how is MSI's warranty? Is it worldwide like asus and EVGA?

The currently reviewed custom R9 290/X are great (ASUS DCII OC and Sapphire Tri-X), not saying MSI has some big boots to fill, as their TwinFrozr cards are generally solid products, but anyone wanting to outdo the R9 290/X custom degin scene has their work cut out for them.

Two and a half months to release a 290X with a slightly modified 7970 coolers... All of these cards could have been released on release day or within a few weeks(as with the 280X or 780 Ti) if AMD actually permitted it...

$400 eh? cheapest 290 is $520 on newegg right now. and the $700 780ti fights the r9 290x, which is going for a mimimum of $600. so no, not 400 in any way. as for true audio, there are these things called "sound cards" that anyone who cares about audio already has, and anyone who doesn't couldn't care less about trueaudio.

and mantle on bf4? thats nice. now show us a game that isnt riddled with bugs that uses mantle, or a game not made by EA that uses it.

how about http://www.kitguru.net/components/g...check-out-the-first-amd-mantle-gameplay-demo/
When they zoom out however and you realise the engine is rendering thousands of little ships, alongside some large capital space craft all firing their own weaponry at a very high level of detail, it turns into something very impressive. On top of that, the frame rate is constantly well over 200 and this is all before any GPU optimisation. It’s speculated that the scene should easily be able to handle 300 FPS after tweaking.

trueadio is much better than that garbage monopoly that creative has with soundcards, programmable audio shaders is a massive step in the right direction, the same thing graphics has done since dx10 started

i think there are more varied studios doing trueaudio than mantle if you count EA/frostbite as a single one

personally, i hope some audio production apps & vsts start experimenting with trueaudio

these 2 features are just interesting, not 'required', certainly not 'the end of nvidia'... i hope the gsync idea turns into a vesa standard the same way a mantle idea ends up standard in a few years (well amd badly needs it when you think about APUs playing games or their desktop CPUs vs intel)

  • During a GPU 14 Tech Days presentation, an announcement was made that Frostbite 3 would have support for Mantle.[3] The first game running on Frostbite 3 to benefit from Mantle will be Battlefield 4 which will get a patch in December that will activate the Mantle support.[2]
  • Will be used in the games Star Citizen and Thief, and the upcoming game engine Nitrous.[5][6]

Mass Effect 4 / Star Wars / TitanFall / Dragon Age

So you are trying to tell me that GTX 780ti 700$ + 320~400$ Sound Card worth the price ? when you can get both for 400$ ?

and Creative X-Fi Titanium PCIe ..if you call this sound card xD ... it's one of most bugged sound cards ever created even worse then BF4 bcuz they didn't even tried to fix it.

I have XFI HD 2.1 and not a single issue with BF4 or anything yet..

The only "problem" so far in windows 8 & 8.1 is, it doesnt remember audio mode after you turn off PC., but there is a workaround just set your preferred mode (ie entertainment) and put PC to sleep after resume it will remember it on next reboot. :)

Ps You both need to chill a little and forget this AMD/NV butthurt fanboy bashing, one disses Amd mantle & gpus, other Nv gpus,.. Hmm no physx yet, too soon?.. typical lol xD

Anyway OT,
This MSI is also very cool, can't wait for all these customs reviews!

So newegg marks the cards up and its AMD's fault? Wow. I never knew that.

The 780Ti is going from 699-799, must be nvidias fault right?

Actually AMD and Nvidia just sell the GPU and base PCB design to custom board makers and they make the card and cooler and charge whatever they want for it, and then Newegg marks it up to whatever the market will bear.

So the reason any card is that price is newegg got charged X number of dollars and they are selling them at X dollars, if they weren't the price would drop.

I wasn't blaming any company for the price increases. I was simply stating that at the moment the 290x non reference are going to go for $700+ which in my opinion makes the 780 Ti the better buy. Chill out

I only hope so for those in the market for one. The problem is that this mining craze is bumping the prices up insane amounts. I've seen people selling 7950s/7970s/280x for $500 and people are buying them. Just crazy.

Hopefully they don't mark up those 290x non-reference to follow this trend

EDIT: Also I don't think this was preorder considering you could buy them from newegg yesterday and now they are sold out
