The R9 270 I think would be a good upgrade for sure.

CPU wise its not so good, your mobo will only take up to a FX 8150, this would still be an upgrade but its Bulldozer cores not Piledriver. That been said my mate runs a FX8120 and it seems to run most games for him ok.

If you are going to upgrade the CPU you might want to look into a newer mobo possibly to get new updated CPU's from either camp (intel/AMD)

Sorry I didnt get back for a bit guys , had some family issues to sort out.

I bought the MSI r9 270x 2g , and finally got time to put it in last night , it seems very strong and doesn't work hard when DayZ was running , but my CPU is working all cores at about 80-90% and seems to be struggling.

So , im gonna just push the boat out now and buy;
intel i7-4770k with motherboard and stuff , ill make a separate post with all the bits I'm looking at buying , its gonna be a completely different set up because well , it just seems like time.

Hope you guys can gimme you opinions on the parts im thinking of getting once I work them all out and make that post.

Thanks guys :) !

Ask a mod to change the thread title and you can ask away in this same thread. Keeps things tidy that way :)
I personally find it odd that you would go for such a midrange card like the 270X, and then decide to buy a 4770k, what is essentially the top end of processors. I think a 4670K will suffice with any generic Z87 motherboard, unless you have bundles of cash to throw at this new system.
I'll go ahead and agree with MailMan earlier in the thread, 2600K is a great 8 threaded processor, you can pick those up at £190 in the UK, which isn't much more than the 4670K, and WAY cheaper than a 4770K.

Ok cool ill try to have a word with a mod see if they can sort the title change for me :)

Yeah it was a Z87 board I think (got it all wrote down on a bit of paper In my coat pocket , but I'm in a ceiling looking at some air conditioning at the moment haha)

Im thinking maybe get the i7 4770k because it sounds like a beast of a CPU , then I can crossfire the GPU when I feel the need ?

Also im looking at the DDR3 ram I would need (dual core I think) and maybe getting 2x8gb sticks of corsair , am I going overboard or does that sound a good idea ?

Ill be a lot more specific when I get home , not easy on my galaxy s4 , sorry :p

Yeah the 4770K is a beast, and will do great if you eventually crossfire, though most people will tell you, one strong single GPU > two midrange GPU's
You already have 8GB of DDR3 RAM, which is fine, you can get 16GB if you want though, it's merely for comfort. I've never used more than 8GB during games until now, because I run a 4GB RAMDisk. If you have the money for 2 x 8GB sticks, then why not I guess :) I went for it and haven't regretted it.
Then again I'm in the same boat as you, my motherboard and processor are now non-existant, so I need a new cpu and mobo for my main rig.

what is resolution of your monitor.
also what is your budget for new pc. dont rush with shopping or you may end paying more for less performance/quality.

I agree with the guys about 4670k will be plenty. performance difference in games almost non existent. I would better take 8Gb ram and 4670k + one more 270x :) i think about same amount if not cheaper than 4770k.
What is better +1-2 fps if any or 70-100% more performance...

Damn i want to upgrade to new gpu (270x or 760gtx or even 2 650ti boost sli or 280x) and prove to a lot of people that my dual core still can handle newest games :) and its from 6 years ago.

Dayz standalone and the mod doesn't run good on any equipment. Arm2/3 is not the most optimized of game engines.

my system specs (new, not reflected in system specs) i3-4330, gtx680amp! (1241,6600) accelero hybrid, 8Gb 99924 ripjaws, ga-h87n-WIFI and a seasonic 380 budget psu!!! lol (but the system does not pulled more than 340 watts
i had to go with the 380 because the seasonic x-400 blocked the GTX680 in node 305.

have not tried "burning" the seasonic by using the furmark/prime95 combo to see if the seasonic 380 will survive.... (350 watts on 380 watt psu crazy)

thing that is odd that this system feels faster than my 4.4G fx8350 2133 ram system!... the 3dmark benchs are slower in physics but "same" feel in the graphics...

but on tomb raider, crysis 3, crysis, GTA IV... all fast enough, but on the fx8350 i was wishing for moar SPEED ...

of course now i am wondering if a should get a 4770K... since the ga-H87-WIFI mini-itx has a "cpu boost"line in the BIOS for oc'ing the 4770k. (do wonder if if works seeing how intel "perhaps fixed/broke" the oc'ing on a H87 MB... but i am thinking that intel might allow "one click" oc'ing of the 4770k on a H87 to sell more 4770K's since generally a person buying a h87-itx is looking for features not overclocking...

Fans - Not sure what to look at :(

----------------------------------------------

Questions :

What do you guy''s think of these choices ? A few of you mentioned the i5 4670k instead of the i7 4770k ? Is there a big difference in performance ? As 1 of you mentioned i could use the money i save on the i5 to get other things better

Those Motherboards , the MSI board i know i can X-fire my GPU (with an identical GPU only right ? MSI R9 270X 2G) in a year of 6 months or whenever i need to ? Not sure if the ASUS board supports that.

Case - I cant tell if my current case is ATX or Micro ATX .With my motherboard details (stated in the previous page) i was hoping to find this out as, if i don't have to buy a case i'd rather not , but i couldn't find out :( So i am unsure if ill need or not .... My friend has this case and it seems very roomy so if i do need this 1 , it does look good and seem very spacious for Fans e.t.c

Ram - My current 1333Mhz 2x4GB RAM , will this be sufficient with this spec im making ? I do'nt run many programs at once and stick to few things running at once to be honest , think ill need to buy some or would this be sufficient :X ?

CD Drive and HDD - Could i just use them ok ? I Don't store much and stick to few games to be honest :p

As Always thanks to anyone willing to help , it''s really appreciated :) !

Edit- Sorry guys, i feel like im asking a lot of everyone here :X

For gaming purposes, I would generally recommend the i5 over the i7, and save the £80 for other things. In terms of performance the i5 will come very close to the i7, except for very few games. According to the Scan website, the Asus doesn't support CF, so that will not be a good option.

ATX cases comes with 7 expansion slots, MATX has 4. Some cases comes with more than spec like ATX with 8 etc, but you get the general idea. I am happy with my Phantom 410, roomy for all the things I need and some more space. You can consider it if you are not aiming for watercooling and other jazz.

RAM is fine, Intel doesn't care much about Ram speed. You will lose a few % of performance, but I don't think it will be very noticeable.

I have used my optical drive a grand total of twice, one to install drivers when I didn't have internet, and the other to watch some random movie I happened to chance upon.

You should try to pick up an SSD, optimised it boots my pc up in less than 10 seconds (longer now as I have not been aggressively pruning). You will never go back to HDD once you try SSD.

Lastly, check other etailers like Amazon and bargain website HotUKdeals, you can find gems.

1st turn back r9 270x (you bought yesterday so it shouldnt be problem).
2nd see this list (both cases you are looking at are good. i would pick aircool cause of 4 door fans. if +20GBP are not problem corsair case from list aslo is good choice).
if price is too high kick out ssd (and corsair case if you pick aircool or nxzt). replace 270 with 280 and dont bother with cf/sli and problems they cause.

agreed
Can you tell the name of your current case? maybe you don't need new one.
About etailers Aria.co.uk have some good prices.
If you can return 270x and take 280x i vote for this together with ne6togadno.
btw, take some better cooler for 4670k

Using 660ti right now, which is about 270x strength. I don't have any problems with 1080p gaming, but things needs to be toned down ever so slightly. Pretty sure a second 270x in a year or two's time will bring it back up to strength. Unless of course OP is gunning for 1440 monitors.

Using 660ti right now, which is about 270x strength. I don't have any problems with 1080p gaming, but things needs to be toned down ever so slightly. Pretty sure a second 270x in a year or two's time will bring it back up to strength. Unless of course OP is gunning for 1440 monitors.

Thabks guys , looks like I may be able to return the 270x and get a nvidia GTX 770 , http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-...hz-gddr5-gpu-1072mhz-boost-1124mhz-cores-1536
Would that be a good move ?

Is my monitor good enough to get the use out of such a card ?
770 is on pair with 280x/7970 so ya it is way better then 270. question here is how long you plane to use card. if dont want to change anything in your pc for next 3-4 years 770/280x is better choice then 270x. if you are ok to buy new/add 2nd card in about 2-3 years then 270x is good enough. you can use saved money for something else.

your monitor is ok. 1080p@60hz is just fine for casual gaming.

Ya ,you got it right there , I would like this pc setup to last me 3+ years , I would rather not have to fiddle with it all again after this :p

I looked up a comparison between the 270x and 770 . 770 seemed so much better , pretty exciting to be honest haha !

So the
cpu - i4670k
GPU- nvidia 770
Mobo - MSI Z87-G43 GAMING Motherboard Intel Socket 1150 SLi/Xfire

Looking good ?

Ill look at casings soon too guys thanks for the hints on them , dam work !!!
