The first Patch Tuesday of 2014 is less than a week away and it will see Microsoft deliver four updates, all rated 'Important', that tackle vulnerabilities found in Windows, Office, and Dynamics AX.

One of the updates is set to resolve a previously-acknowledged elevation of privilege vulnerability that affects Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and has already seen limited, targeted attacks. The patches will become available this coming Tuesday, January 14, at about 10:00 AM PST.

For a bit more info check out the Advance Notification found here.

So that's (4) down and 40 Billion more security updates to go before any Microsucks O/S will be even remotely secure. I'd suggest Bill get off his arse and get the first Billion security fixes out this year.

There have been many issues lately with updates failing, we have had quite a few clients complaining that their updates where causing issues.
Also searching the web I found plenty of articles regarding this:
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2013/09/12/patch-tuesday-flaws/1
http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsof...ows-patches-in-latest-automatic-update-224988
Now these are just to name a few.
Historically it has been working well, but the quality has definitely dropped off lately.
The reason behind this is not certain, I just hope that it is not indicative of bigger issues within Microsoft.
Marty :)

oh wow, i guess i never ran into those, nor people i know? (well sometimes i end up opening WU a few days or weeks late, so it's possible they get taken down before i even see them)

the only update that caused problems for me is that win7 DX update that messed with certain dx10 games such as red faction guerrilla

Does Bill Gates even have a say in the OS anymore?, Isn't it Balmer?

Patching is never ending. Besides jorge you use windows to game with. Try that on mac n youll be left behind. At least ms patches their software unlike they did when xp was around.

Oh that's right, I forgot. Not a single other OS in existence receives regular security patches and updates...

Why don't you go back under your bridge?

I too have not had a month go by since I went to W8 in March on one of my PC's, that there has not been a problem with the updates. W8 updates always fail and take me 7, 8 or 9 rounds of restarts to finally get them installed, whereas W7 and WHS 2011 patches install flawlessly.

That said, I am not upset at all that they patch. I welcome it. An OS is literally billions of lines of code, and no one could anticipate every security glitch. Most of them are found by people whose only goal in life is to find exploits in Windows. You can't anticipate that. I applaud MS when they try to fix those exploits!
