Items for sale & other Topics, why the pages and pages of Bump Bumps and BUMPS (Vote Poll as well)

Should there be just a 'Bump Button' unless your bump contains useful information

Hi all, just been looking throw the "items for sale" topic. I think the Idea is great, But there is one thing that has already annoyed me very much... and that is the pages and pages of Bump Bumps and BUMPS. o_O

Now I have nothing against a post being bumped once a day, but it would be much easier for people to find real info if the old bumps were deleted, when a new bump is added. :slap:

What would be a great function is to have just a 'Bump Button' and when a person hits it the last bump post created by the button script is deleted allowing for a cleaner layout also you will see the real amount of real posts and replies by a person and not the 1000 bumps they have made.:toast:

If the seller is on top of their threads, the bump is just to attract attention, the OP should have all the information you need. I would say to simply stop reading all the bumps.

Also the word is through, not throw;)

True and that is all... not post after post Bump tfffu ttths jkkjweflhf and so on for pages

By the 30th page of scrolling "through" I just switch off and look at other forums for info as its not just the items for sale but thats just 1 topic I pointed out as its hard to tell if a item is even sold or not.

Sorry i'm a crap speller... that could be because of many reasons like falling off a 3rd floor at 2 years old did not help me in life or the kick in the head by a horse at 5 years old at out pony club, and i have had many since. could not even read because i was a trouble child and people gave up on me just passed year 10, since then I have taught myself everything so if i get a word wrong sue me :pimp:

Point is you should not have to read 30 pages deep into a FS thread, if the info isn't in the OP you need, move on. Or simply post and ask if it is still for sale. As it sits the FS section is run very tight, and if the seller can't keep up with their threads, do you really want to buy stuff from them?

Is that not what Edit is for? Should be just edited in the main post, and each day hit the bump button to bring it back up. Instead of filling the topic with the word 'bump' or with I want it and can not afford it so i'm not buying it.

In this case it would be good idea for the Bump button anyone can hit the bump button the seller or persons friends helping watch the item. So if the seller hit the bump button 3 hours earlier the other person that wants to bump the post hits the button and the bump post from the seller gets removed.

All prices and items sold I reckon should be Edited in the first post unless new items added or a real enquire is made by a person with interest as a post not just a bump post.

Also say there is a birthday sale or something the person that hits bump can add a side note to the seller that can go to their inbox like e.g. (happy birthday have a good one or congrats) and we only see the '1' bump made at that time, so even in 10 min's someone can bump it again or a time script can be made to only allow the bump to work in so many hours but you can still send the side note to the seller just no bump will come up. So at the end of the day all we see is that new 1 bump post, and so on.... you get my drift.

Also it makes it better for search engines to bring more traffic to TPU as there will not be post after post of bumps it has to search through bringing your search higher in the search engines because there is less to index and search with the less informal posts.

I dont see what any of that has to do with anything other than your personal preferences.

You have the poll. let it ride, and if you get enough support, take it to the admin. That is where I am going to stop with my comments, we just need to agree to disagree here as I see no relevance to this in any way.

As sneeky I don't see the problem. It's all in the OP. If it isn't, don't bother.

The only problem as I see it is many sellers list things and when they are sold they just write SOLD after them. That brings up that item if you search for something, which can be irritating. And some people make annoying OP's with lots of huge text and so on, but other that that it's working quite well for a forum.

If the buyer doesn't have anything above, I suggest that you require that he ship first, before payment. If he refuses, then it would be best to just walk away as it is probably an attempt to steal from you.

with all due respect, it is insane to suggest that any seller in their right mind would ship an item to someone before receiving confirmed payment first, to suggest otherwise is just not realistic. this statement, well meaning as it was to protect the buyer, should be edited out and removed because there is no logic to it.

I don't care who they are I would never ship an item without receiving payment first nor would any rational person trying to sell something.

it would be better and more logical advice to simply say " If the buyer doesn't have anything above, then it would be best to just walk away as it could be an attempt to steal from you."

I wish to thank you for a great post and applaud you efforts to ensure both buyers and sellers here have a great problem free experience trading merchandise here.

I have seen other forums running "for sale" forums to simply not allow any post other then the original poster and that keeps things in neat order without the ten plus pages of posts when someone is running a storefront but still afford the seller all the space he needs to add his own posts to list things.

all replies are done by PM only out of public view and it completely avoids the price is too high post you get from people, I have even done that myself when I was a new member because I thought I was helping other members to avoid paying $80 for a used item that was sold new for $75. I have since realized its buyer beware and that section is by its nature going to be filled with price gougers asking new prices for things.

I think TPU as well as it members would be well served for a change in that forum to where all posts are locked from public comment, after all its a place to see what is being sold of what people want to buy and should not be filled with multipage threads.

as to the bumps, when I bump my own thread I delete the previous bump so its not cluttered with 10 bumps, it would be a good idea to enforce a policy like that to people who bump more then once so you replace an older bump but not keep adding more bump posts

just my 2 cents

I have no issue with the pages of bumps.

And Sneeky got it right:

that's a great idea, maybe i could write an addon that does this.
