Ok so I am going to get one of the two boards.
There is a $15 price difference with the Saitek being the cheaper keyboard ($45 :))
Anyways which one would be better and why?

G15...

for me, both keyboards are hand in hand the same. Though the saitek has a slight springier button. For 15 bucks more, you are getting program-able macro key (which can total up to 54 functions), a lcd screen to give intel about your rig, which would be hard to view while gaming (check out my mod), and other little things such as built in usb hub (2 ports), media function, and able to lock window keys so that they don't interrupt while gaming.

Saitek Eclipse 1

I just got this one from ebay and love it.Course I had condensation under the keys and was without a keyboard for 2 weeks in which they relaced it.I just like the idea of the keys lighting up instead of having a light on in the room. Also during this same stretch of time I went ahead and got a Razer Diamonback gaming mouse. Both really compliment eachother.Check that out as well, you wont be disappointed. WASPMAN

Let me know which one you get.

I say g15 for its extra functions if you dont mind the size on your desk.

Saitek. I have the G15, and most of ---- all of its extra functions are just about useless.

LCD is 'cool' but other than telling you what song your listening to and the time, it serves little purpose.

G-Keys - FFXI, barely useful in an mmorpg if you don't use a windower ( which you shouldnt! ).. never was useful when I played fps games like fear, bf2, bf1942/dc, hl2,css......

Not to mention it is big and takes up alot of space, too much space in my opinion.

Back light is 'decent'. works best on the upper keys, g2,5,7,and 15 are dim, f5-12 are poorly lit, prtscrn, scrll lock, and pause/break are dim.. spacebar has no backlight...

the keys do, for the most part, have good tactile feedback.. but the spacebar, control, shift buttons, and backspace all do not become depressed when using the same amount of force as you would to push the the letter, b, for example. these keys really could have been balanced better for more precision.

the little switch that goes from 'normal' to 'gaming' modes does not disable alt-tab. alt+1 in ffxi is my map button. if you press this in ffxi (anything that makes you lose fullscreen mode does this) then the game will crash out.

g15 could have a much better grip to the desk.

usb ports are 1.1, and not too useful due to awkward positioning, you 'forget' they are there after a while and just don't use them.

programs available, and compatability for the lcd screen is minimal at best.

That's my honest take on the g15. If I could, I'd have waited and saved my money for a better keyboard.... ( bought this a month or two after it was released )

Thank you.
This is what I was looking for.

I knew the G15 had a few other features, but I see you dont use them.
Are they really that useful?

Also, the size is what was hindering me from choosing the G15.

I vote Saitek. Based purely on size. I hate big keyboards. So much so, that I choose to use my Apple keyboard with both my pc and G5 powermac (via kvm).

yeah most people wouldent use the macro.. I've used a software macro before just to raise some skills in an online game.

It sounds like you'll be better off with the saitek. I know I wouldnet have space for my mouse and the g15 on my keyboard tray, its cramped atm.

Saitek all the way the G15 is nice BUT to big and the LCD is basically a waste. If you have the need for extra keys/functions get the one with the extra command pad. The command pad has 9 extra programable buttons plus a shift/mode button with 3 modes giving you up to 27 more usable keys which you can program for any function you want when you install the software.

I've had this KB for a year now and the small size, the sensitive keys, and the command pad make it kickass I bought another just a couple weeks ago to keep as a spare incase this 1 ever takes a crap because IMHO its the best for the money

I use my macro...

Program radio commands for FPS games, or combo moves in Rpgs, etc...if only useful if you take 10 mins to program them. And many come pre configed.

The lcd is not a waste...check out my sig...so much potential it has.

But all in all...a keyboard is a keyboard, really...what is the difference other than features?

I have that very keyboard, and personally I think it sucks. The command pad ruins the keyboard beyond belief. It is poorly coded and not compatible in quite a few games (all of which I own and play). I want to replace it with either the Eclipse or the Eclipse II.

The G15 for me is too big and too expensive with a lot of useless extra features (for me personally) so I wouldn't get it.

Logitech G15, the keystroke is just so much better IMO and the keys seem so soft compared to the Eclipse II.

Same here,..I have been sort of looking for another keyboard, just due the up-grade bug,but the old Saitek eclipse1 is small and fits my desk so nice.
Another thing is, it passed my dishwasher test.It looks like NEW{no kidding}after every wash.
It is amazing the amount of crud I seem to be able to get in my keyboard.
With the few games I play{BF2@ BF2142}the macros and such with the G15 would be a waste.I DO like the LCD though.

I personally prefer the G15. It's not as huge and clunky as I thought it would be, and it looks fabulous. The macro keys are cool but their placement is a little odd (on the far left, when they could have been at the top), but if they had been on the right one would have to take one's hand off the mouse to use them, so the left isn't too bad.

The apps that come with the LCD are functional but not brilliant - download some better ones from somewhere (I think one of the guys on this site has a nice one).
