Why, what do you want to know besides my clocks?

Problems?

Click reset in Trixx, what does it give you? 0 or +12mv
No problems just trying to see what others achieved

around 1200/1625 so far but it's still growing with voltage and power adjustments.
What voltage

So far I've only achieved 1180/1500 @65mV with AB 18

I wish Trixx had the same monitoring abilities as AB though.

CHANGE THE Thermal paste my man!

I screwed around with a dozen tim jobs with different paste and I finally got it right on a ol msi 290 card.

Trick is to buy (for under $15) a kit of ArctiClean stuffs and use it. The isopro alcohol even @99% stuff is a waste of time and even W1zzard uses it when reviewing his cards:toast:

It cleans waaaaay better then anything else. ;)

Because I replaced it with shin-estu

At 1125/1500 @70% Fan speed playing Tomb Raider on Ultimate I'm seeing 73°C with 33°C ambient

Dude you got a DCUII so do not use the reference AMD BIOS the VRMs are different(very very different) and you will brick the cards. Only use other R9 290(X) DCUII BIOSes. Because you have the custom asus PCB design it is very possible that voltages are locked but the OCing software doesn't notice. The voltage measured by W1zzad on his R9 290X DCUII was 1150mv at stock so yours is the same or maybe less. There is also a possibility that ASUS cheaped out on some of the VRM components(very likely as W1zz's review sample clocked badly too but Guru 3D got excellent OK clocks with +150mv) and so the cards are not gonna OC that well or the low stock voltage is getting in the way and you should use +50mv or +100mv to get 1.2 or 1.25V.

Core voltage has a really weird behavior that is bound to temp and goes something like this:
+200mv upto 60C = 1.4V
+200mv upto 70C = 1.35V
+200mv upto 80C = 1.3V This is where high clocks typically crash
+200mv upto 85C = 1.2V
+200mv upto 90C = 1.15V
+200mv upto 95C = 1.1V This is where everything other than stock clocks crash
This is only true for the reference design cards.

Hi buddy. The Asus cards I have got are reference cards.

Btw Fullinfusion thanks for your advice, with the Asus bios I couldn't even get 1050 core stable at stock volts (artifacts in 3DM11 and eventually crash) but the ATI bios worked much better. 1075 core on stock volts. I used the ATI 290, 947/1250 bios.

I pushed my 800w to 743w so this is where I quit.

Got a 3DM11 pic for ya.

743w.png

This was with the CPU @ 4.49ghz only. The cards were 1100/1250 +50mv I think.

Cant push any further atm. I don't want anything to go POP!

Btw this score was with tess off.

Cheers Pal.

In what way?

I just set my own fan curve up and even after a bunch of bench runs its still cool to the touch! ;)

And I mean monitoring like displaying everything that the popout window in AB shows. Temps/Volts/Load, etc, without having to run another program like GPU-Z.

Also, I've been getting pretty constant BSOD's, doesn't matter where my clocks are. I keep getting "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" or "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M", but mostly IRQL.

One dump analyzer keeps saying "This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above." I'm not sure if it's because I've manually changed the size of the page file or what. General google searches don't really give me anywhere to look, each forum thread seems to be caused by different things.

I've run Memtest without issues as well, so I'm not sure. Never happens when I'm gaming, only really when I leave the computer Folding without touching it.

Oh sorry man when I saw the ASUS branded boxes I guessed that you had DCUII cards because I can't think of any other reason to buy an ASUS GPU.
As for stuff going pop the VRM on these is built for 350A at 125C and 380A at 20C and the core will be just fine with running +100mv for extended periods of time even +200mv is safe for some benchmark runs so you really don't have to be worried.

I got the Asus cards mate coz they were going cheap locally.

Im not worried about my cards mate its the power supply.

I was pushing 743w on a 800w PSU. Im going to have to be happy testing cpu and gpus separately atm until my 1kw goes in.

Cheers.

1kw is still going to be tight if you clock any higher, I said in an earlier post I was hitting over 1KW on my HX850 at times but that was 4.8-5ghz and 1100/1400

EDIT: Not far from your score but still freaking for my DAM card to come back from NCIX/MSI rma... dam thats the last time I ever buy from any sub-vendor of NCIX!!!

Anyways one card isnt far from your Mark11 score ;)
and watch out when I get my 2nd card back :p

Anybody that can get 1400Mhz or more to run stably, what is the actual benefit to clocking the RAM up? I remember with my old X1900XT I did an experiment where I left the core stock and OC'ed the memory and there was little benefit to doing it. I can't seem to get 1400Mhz stable on my 290, but I can get the core up, so just trying to see if it's worth the effort trying to find the "golden" ratio.

These are different gpu's so I dont need to answer that question, rule of thumb on old gen cards were to clock the core and lower the memory.

These cards for the past 3 gens benefit from more memory, BUT the R9 series is a tricky SOB to figure out. There's so much potential in them, most clockers resort to old school clocking and that's where the fail happens.

Do what I do, take the last number in the factory clock and use it for your higher clocks. Chances are it'll work better then you just coming up with a number on your own.

Once you find the balance your going to be pleased for sure!

Yeah, core seems easy enough so far, but if I ever take memory over 1300 nothing likes to play nice. Maybe I'm not using enough voltage when also upping the memory along with the core...

Also, using Trixx, is there any need to set the boost %? I know AB had the option, but I haven't seen it in Trixx. Just wondering if it mattered.

mine is 1.23 stock voltage dude.

msi gamer 74.6 asic.

edit @lopez

the older cards had plenty of ram bendwidth for the time dude, the extra core mhz gave you noticable gains as the core was the bottleneck of those cards.

I've got memory as high as 1650mhz on 200mv offset. Most of the Elpida ICs need about +62mv to run 1500mhz with 1100mhz core clock.
